I hear London has won the 2012 olympics.

Bah! It should have been Birmingham, much better situated and motivated to hold the games.

Still, some of the events will be held here anyway. And the accommodation is much more reasonable, or at least better!

Andy.

Bah, indeed! At least Chirac gets to choke on one more dry baguette on his way to senile incontinence ...

And what made him sneer at Finnish cuisine, anyway? I hope they serve him jellied reindeer hoof the next time he visits, ahh, visits, ummmm, where was he supposed to be going next ... ?

Congratulations, London, and the entire UK! Good show, and we're all looking forward to 2012! :D

Thanks, Esav, and you just reminded me of that tin of reindeer meat we've still got in the cupboard, brought it back from... where was it now?

Andy.

Congratulations to the UK. You not only got the Olympic Games but
you even managed to make Chirac look even worse. Good Show indeed.

I had heard some of Chirac's comments about Haggis, he said that the
the NATO chief served him haggis and the Franco NATO relations haven't
been the same since.

AWUK, isn't the traffic in London already pretty congested? Won't this
just aggravate the situation?

And FullerH I always thought that you were a sick, sick man but now I
know for sure. Haggis? Your a braver man than I. :D

HOORAY you have no idea how happy I am that someone else (anyone else) got suckered in on the latest Olympic boondogle. Montreal is STILL paying for the games they had there as is Atlanta. Never mind the more recent venues. The Olympics is nothing but a shell game with tax payer money where professional athletes go to uphold the honor of whatever country is paying their salary. My only regret is that our friends the Brits got suckered into it this time. A shame Paris didn't get it.

After N.Y. was eliminated I was happy that England got the games. I have to admit I was looking forward to the opening surrender ceremony if France had won.

Yes, but the arrival of the olympics means billions will be spent on the transport system. Also, in a conurbation of some 12 million people, the arrival of the olympic hordes will make very little difference, especially in the summer, when many of the locals will be in the Dordogne or Tuscany (or the Costas).

Birmingham however,http://www.virtualbrum.co.uk/wiki/transport.htm
http://www.bhx.co.uk/page.aspx?type=T0NaZj9WNoU=&id=c4veiV6ICVk=
would probably be able to host the olympics with comparitively little effort and far greater convenience for competitors and visitors.

Haggis is lovely!

Yes, but with no apparent difference to the congestion. The only difference will be a number of politicians & contractors will have fuller pockets.

I hope they're going to make the marathon runners pay a congestion charge :)

1. Whose billions? Mine, and I don't live in London. Still, they can always accommodate the tourists in another white elephant: The Millennium Dome! :grumpy:

2. True!

Hah! seen this already. Obviously doctored, the olympic symbols and the "half price" - note the euro sign.

Still funny though.

Can anyone see what country it is from the number plate?
