Curious if anyone here has heard of, or knows anything about Olympus Blades? If so, what's your scoop? Just discovered them. Thanks.

Welcome.

You might want to get rid of the link....especially in a first post...one may think you are promoting the company.

As for Olympus lemme look around, it sounds family and fishy. Could be wrong, but it might just be a cooked up story to sell cheap Pakistani "damascus."

Its odd that they say on their website that they are "Born and raised in Southern California, I now live in Florida with my wife.", but on FB their contact number is in Nashville....

What, to you, is the appeal of this particular brand? Why do you want one, and what do you want to do with it?

I love how on their website 2 of the 4 customer testimonials are the common "Lorem Ipsum" placeholders. :)

I just thought they had fans in Greece!

Like I said, I may be way off, but this brand and their site seems awfully familiar. I'm not buying it.

And I think we could steer our new friend to a brand and knife that is comparably priced and more effective from a maker with a rock solid reputation.

That's why I asked what the appeal was, and what he wants to use it for. I should have also asked how much he wants to spend.

Sorry about the link. I'll pull the noob card there. Not my company. Just found them on another forum and just joined this one. Not used to that being an issue. I'm relatively new to the knife scene. I'm more active in overland / expedition forums. I'm looking for a solid multi-purpose edc / bushcraft knife.

I also love how all their sales are handled through Amazon so they can spend their time making more knives.
Hmmmmmmm, getting a fishy smell.

I've been leaning towards the TOPS Firldcraft or the TOPS Green Badger. The use of Badger in the name isn't a factor but it's certainly a bonus.

They make a good knife. The Fieldscraft looks good for what you want to do....That Green Badger is utter nonsense, however.

They look okay, but knowing absolutely nothing about them, seeing they sell through the big river exclusively, and there is no other review that I can find about them on the web, I'm real Leary, especially when there are a ton of reputable brands and makers out here already with reputations to back them up, many right here in the makers forum.

Let me reiterate a key point ... I'm just discovering this magical new world of quality blades and cutlery. I grew up with a grandfather & father who collected pocket knives but let's just presume quantity and finish were more important to them than function/quality. When I say collected, I mean at one point my grandfather had well over 5,000 knives and every trip to the flea market meant +2 or more for the collection. That's where I cut my teeth...

My budget isn't an issue; I live by "buy once, cry once" these days. But I'm also not one to drop insane amounts of money on something just because I can. That said... I keep a few knives handy in my truck and/or on my person already.

  • Coast micro-fisherman that stays on my keychain. I've had it around 20 years.
  • Buck 470 fixed blade that I've had for 15-16 years.
  • Tac Force TF-636BGN that I've had maybe 2 years now. Cheap/beater knife.
  • Some horrid no-name Chinese "Tactical Knife" I got as a gift, but I keep it around b/c it came with a paracord handle and a magnesium stick that never fails to produce a spark. I don't carry it, but it stays in the truck.
Some present context... some friends and I recently spent some time with a couple instructors who gave us some private lessons in outdoor survival, primarily firecraft/woodcraft. I got to play with a TOPS Fieldcraft B.O.B. for the weekend that belonged to one of the instructors. I loved working with it. I compared it to my TF-636 and there was no comparison. As sharp as the TF-636 is, I realize it's a box-cutter and a beater that belongs in my truck in case of a rollover b/c it has a glass-break and a seatbelt cutter. TBH, I might even sell it and replace it with a seatbelt cutter & glass-break that doesn't multi-purpose as a knife too. Meh.

When I say edc/bushcraft - I'm looking to pickup an edc knife that is comfortable, easy to care for, durable, and works well for firecraft/woodcraft. As I've said before, the TOPS Fieldcraft and GB are certainly on the short list. Blown away by the input/feedback - really appreciate it. :)
