I've got a great repeat customer that wanted something different. He left most of it up to me. The knife is a Fiddleback Forge Sneaky Pete and has Python micarta scales.

There's a dangler made as well, just waiting for the removable pin ring to arrive.

Very nice. I like the green fading into black. Very creative tooling or stamping or whatever you call it. Great work!

Maybe combine your red with the green for a dragon look? The last one I tried to rope had that greenish red deal going on but it's been sometime since one has been around here, my recollection might not be too good.

Christmas dragon? :)

I'm not sure how you mean. Like a base green and block red? I don't think the red would still look red if that's what you meant, but I could certainly try it.

I also have yellow Fiebings, but it doesn't work all that well, even dip dyeing. It came in a glass bottle. Two reasons that I know of for the glass bottle. One, maybe it's really old, or two, certain dyes (white, and I think gray) come in glass. Not sure exactly why this is, but I hear they don't work well. Could be the yellow is in the same camp?

Yeah I'm not sure how to accomplish it, never messed around like that but it would sure look cool if ya could get it figured. I've only ever used the oil dyes in saddle tan, light and dark brown, mahogany and black. Even then not very often. Oil just works better for me and what I do. I did dye some spur straps short time ago. So maybe hope.....not.

A few words. Experiment with antique stains. They will make work that that pop in a huge way.

Sadly, or goodly, however you want to look at it, the push for pre dyed leather has let some of that creativity slowly fade away. Those who use it and will continue are way ahead of the game. It will become one of those very rare and very nice effects in leather craft. ie, expensive.

Dwayne, I'm confused by the above. Are you saying that the ones that use pre-dyed, or the ones using creative dyeing are ahead of the game?

I like to play with colors mostly because I don't see a lot of it. The thing is, (seems like) most guys looking for something different, or specifically tactical, go with Kydex. While I understand and appreciate the use of Kydex for all of its qualities, I think leather is under utilized in those roles. I'm trying to change that one sheath at a time. ;)

Edit- I like antique a lot. I need to get some other than medium brown because I'd like to try a Halloween/creepy themed sheath using colors and antique black. I do like block dyeing for the reverse effect too though.

Double edit- Dave, tell ya what. I'll agree to trying damascus when you agree to dye. :p

Ok there's proof. Click on the Instagram link in my signature line. Fourth pic in the gallery and 12th pic. Proof that I have used dye and recently! Damascus chef knife with mammoth ivory handle?

Heeeey I bet there's a Marine out there that'll dig those straps.

Damascus chefs knife? No thanks. Already have one. Bought it off the mailman a couple of days ago. :p Ouch. Sorry man.

No they only lost it for a couple of weeks, they found it after all. Guy got it Mon and already ordered another. Good one though.

Antique, as get into the impressed lines with a dark stain:

or working into a distressed leather

or into cut lines

or better yet, like your sheath, into stamped patterns

understand? Dont read deep into my comments, its not a good place to go. I dont tend to mince words or elude to things. I got tricked a while back into that custom dye effects tutorial and it went awry, I dont give out my personal techniques just to anyone or everyone. I worked long and hard to develop them so when I let go of something its not lightly done.

I hope you get the point. :)

I'm not sure I do, but I'm happy to let it go. Hope I've never stepped on your toes, if I did at some point it was entirely unintended. That's enough of that though. :o

Those are gorgeous, of course. I'm especially enamored with the tglb sheath. I'm doing one right now and I have new respect for those of you that do these giant sheaths. I'm hoping it will come out nicely, but ya never know until it's done. I'm more used to working on something this size-
