Omega quartz or Breitling auto?

Ok. My wife says I can have a new watch...

I'm trying to decide between the Omega Seamaster (Bond type) with a quartz movement, and a Breitling Colt Ocean automatic.

I like autos, and have a couple, but I tend to be a little hard on my watches (shooting range, golfing, etc). My Seiko diver auto holds up, but at a couple hundred dollars, I don't worry much anyway.

I prefer the looks of the Omega. But, am I screwing up if I pay $1100 for a quartz movement?

I think the Breitling uses a slightly tougher auto movement, and costs about the same as the Omega quartz.

Help me, I can't decide, and I can't get it off my mind!!!

thanks!

I would recommend going to www.timezone.com for info on these
watches. I'm a big fan of the Omega SMPs, they have held up great to all types of abuse. I would think you could save some big bucks on a purchase at timezone.com.

I wouldn't spend $1100 for a quartz, TZ usually has a few listed. If you want to buy new E-mail me and I'll give you the name of the dealer I got mine from at 35% off.

I have a Brietling Superocean, good watch, I also like the Fortis Pilot, big tough looker. The Omega is nice, but I too look at the $$ for a quartz movement and shudder. Ask Mr. "TNT" Tom Mayo, he is a watch guru.

Regarding Breitlings in general;
they are widely regarded in knowledgeable watch circles as being vastly overpriced for what you get. Apparently, Breitling does very little, if any, finishing on the movement prior to fitting it into the watch case. Personally, I've never owned one. Always thought their styling was too "busy". I also don't think many of the Breitlings come with Sapphire crystals.
I did own an Omega Seamaster Pro automatic (007 Bond watch) though and can attest to it's robustness and accuracy. A friend of mine has the quartz version and loves it. It's the proverbial "put it on your wrist and never even think about it till you need to know the time" watch.
None of this is intended to be flame bait, just my recollections of surfing at TimeZone.
I'd definitely recommend checking out TZ, though for the latest on Breitling. If possible, you should look at the 2 watches in person. That way you can definitely get a feel for the quality and finishing of the watch before purchase.
Finally, consider the auto version of the Seamaster Pro. Those movements are built like the proverbial brick "s#!thouse". Plus, you don't have to worry about the gaskets and pressure checks everytime you change the battery.

Go to the TimeZone Sales corner before you spend your money and watch what happens there. Breitling Colt Autos turn up for ~$550 and Omega Bond Quartz's run ~$450 to $650 depending on the watch.

If you want a Casio or Seiko, my neck of the woods has a lot of selection. When I started looking at premium watches, I found a Rolex dealer immediately. After a couple of weeks of calling around an Omega dealer. Not much of selection to choose from.

Timezone has provided a lot of knowledge to help me make an informed purchased. Once I started reading reviews and looking at good quality pictures, I soone realized that both Omega and Breitling were not the watches I thought they were.

thanks for the responses!

...well, I couldn't stand it - I bought the Seamaster pro automatic (2531.80) - it was only a couple hundred more for the auto. Wearing it right now! Gotta love it!

So far, this gadget and gear forum has now cost me roughly $12,483 :D
...I gotta stop coming here!;)
