Hi Satin-
By all means, go with the automatic movement. It is as reliable as nails and the watch truly has a "soul."
Compared to a quartz movement, it will only need to be "opened-up" for lubrication every five years or so...depending on operating conditions. If you live in the Sahara Desert, for example, more frequent inspections are suggested due to the blowing sand and dust. A quartz watch needs periodic battery changes on a more-frequent basis.
An automatic can be passed from generation-to-generation. When a quartz module is eventually "fried," it is basically a throwaway item.
Automatic movements hold their value better, but a watch like an Omega SMP is a "user" not something to be locked in a safe. Go with the full size in either a black or white dial on a steel band. The blue dial doesn't transition as well from casual to semi-formal wear like the black or white dials. If you have normal-sized wrists, go with the larger size, which I believe is 41mm or so. It is easier to read while driving, motorcycling, or diving.
You have the option of putting a watch on an automatic winder, but as John mentioned, you can safely wind the watch using the stem. The power reserve will last several days, so if you wear it normally, your movements will rotate the rotor and keep the watch wound.
