Check to see if the serials have been removed. Chances are Sam's Club is not an authorized dealer, so you are buying grey market. Hopefully they have the same warranty as Costco.

eBay, unfortunately. There was a brand new one that sold for $840 recently, and you can usually find them for $900 from a reputable seller anytime.

Sams Club sells Omegas now? I bought a Guess (the brand) watch there about 3 years ago and that was all they had...I guess they have stepped up a notch.

The local Costco here usually has a Blue on Blue Seamaster for just under a grand. I wanted the polished bezel and laser blue face so I bought mine elsewhere, but still paid about $950.00 out the door with serial #, warranty card and all although the card wasn't stamped of course.

You guys should look at:

www.glooks.com

They offer deep discounts on Omegas (and others) and I have done business with them before. They are in Los Angeles. The only problem I have had with them is missing manuals, but they have corrected those problems.

Several notches, in fact! Our local COSTCO sells Cartier, Omega, Ebel, and Movado.

My SMP has just had to go back to Omega this week as the crown stopped screwing down

Has anyone else had this problem?

I am not looking forward to the repair bill :(

I have had and still have many Seamasters. Costco and Sams are not authorized dealers.I use to not mind buying from unauthorized dealers until I found out that the only way those places got those watches was someone broke their contract with Omega and sold watches to other dealers. In a nut shell this means the watch may have had a problem or might have been a factory second or what have you.Sometimes the #s are polished off so Omega doesn't find out who broke their contract. It's worth the piece of mind buying from an authorized dealer,it's a few bucks more but you get what you pay for.

Isn't that $1,000 version the quartz model that's available at most authorized dealers for about the same price anyhow? Check the actual model number and crosscheck with an authorized dealer or Omega's website. The differences can be subtle. There are a lot of Asian market units out there that will cause you headaches come repair/cleaning time... I'm not an authority, but these are discussions that I've had with a man I trust who also happens to be an authorized Omega dealer AND Omega repair shop. The movement in a self winding mechanism is worth saving up the extra dough. Peace of mind is priceless for me. :D

Costco has been known to sell watches with serial numbers removed. This can be a problem in two ways. First of all, it is illegal to even possess a watch with serial numbers that have been removed in some states. For example, in California, it is a violation of Penal Code section 537(e).

537e. (a) Any person who knowingly buys, sells, receives, disposes of, conceals, or has in his or her possession any personal property from which the manufacturer's serial number, identification number, electronic serial number, or any other distinguishing number or identification mark has been removed, defaced, covered, altered, or destroyed, is guilty of a public offense, punishable as follows:
(1) If the value of the property does not exceed four hundred
dollars ($400), by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six
months.
(2) If the value of the property exceeds four hundred dollars
($400), by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year.

For purposes of this subdivision, "personal property" includes,
but is not limited to, the following:
(8) Any clock, watch, watch case, or watch movement.

Secondly, the watch will never be serviced by an authorized repair facility in this condition.

From what I understand, Costco will simply swap out a watch that is defective. Due to their volume purchases, they probably just eat the returned watches. However, you will be at their mercy. You cannot take a watch with ground off serial numbers to an authorized dealer for repair. The reason that serial numbers are ground off in the first place is to protect dealers. Dealers often buy too many watches and need to sell off their excess inventory. They don't want to lose their dealership by selling to gray market sources. Since serial numbers are recorded by watch manufacturers, the dealers have the numbers ground off so the watches cannot be traced back to them. What many dealers do not realize is that this turns the watches into illegal contraband in many states that have serial number alteration laws.

Costco does NOT eat returned merchandise. It's the opposite. The manufacturer does.

They do when the serial numbers are filed off. The manufacturer has NO obligation to accept merchandise with serial numbers ground off. Perhaps you didn't read my post.

Has anyone else purchased from glooks.com ?

I will be getting a Seamaster next month for my 40th birthday. They are $80 cheaper than ashford.com, but I have heard a lot of good about ashford.

Opinions ?

Thanks,
Alex

P.S.
The 2531.80 will be mine
