iw was looking thru an old box of watches from my dad(he collected watches, mostly cheaper ones but also some more high end) and i found his old omega speedmaster from the late '60s/early '70's (i think anyway) its seen some wear and has a replacement band but still works fine(i wore it some last week), just has the typical scuffs and such, one odd thing is the tachymeter bezel, all the ones i have seen are outside of the crystal, this one is inside the crystal, never have seen another like it.

i dont know a lot about omegas, anyone know of a site with some old ones pictured so i can figure out how old it is/value/etc, and some one to do a few things to it, maybe buff it out, a better band, new crystal, service/lube, etc?

thanks for any info............

wow, i must be getting old lol, i meant to put this in gadgets/gear will a mod move it for me please, sorry........

i mgot my seamaster froma jewellery store.

it has nubers on the watch that are registered with omega.

go to a reputable dealer in your area and ask them directly.

also omega may answer your questions too.

Does it say Mark II or something under the Speedmaster on the dial? You should take pictures and post them on the Omega forum at watchuseek.com there is a good bunch of guys there and they will steer you torwards a good watchmaker.

The prices are all over for these watches depending on the movement. Some are not worth much money while others are so called grail watches.

Pictures always help.

i cant post pics right now i dont think.

really its just std run of the mill speedmaster except the tach bezel thingy is under the crystal vs outside the crystal, i personallly very much prefer the outside of the crystal look, i just have never seen another with the tach under the crystal vs outside like the bezel on a divers watch/bezel on a rolex GMT/sub/etc.

if its worth anything i might would get it buffed out, get a new band, new crystal, and wear it, or maybe do a swap for one with the other style tach bezel which looks better to me,

i'm gonna take it into town to a place that sells omegas and see what the deal it with it, and see if its a real one not a fake, one part of me wants to say its a fake due to the way the tach is while another part says its real mostly because its H2O proof, keeps good time, works right, etc, anyway i would think they would know.

edited to add:

well, i went to another site, and found a pic of my watch, its a '69 mark 11 pro model 145.014, to see a pic go to www.chronomaddox.com/omega/articles/mark_series/MarkSeries.html and scroll down to the '69 model 145.014, mine is the one on the left with the black dial.

i think it would definitely be worth doing some work to.

i should have known my dad wouldnt have had a fake, but ya never know heck he might not have known.

imho a pretty cool item to find in a box of old watches and old watch parts which have been sitting on my shelf in the closet for the last 15 yrs lol.

It's a good watch but not one of the rare ones. Probably worth around $500 look for 145.014 mark II on ebay to figure out for sure.

I had one of those same watches in used condition. Sounds very similar to yours. Not sure of the exact year, but it did have the tach under the crystal, slight crystal scratching and the band was a bit beat up. I looked into getting it fixed up, but I perfer an auto and a slightly smaller case thickness, so in the end I just sold it on ebay. It sold for a little over $700, but with ebay you never know what's gonna happen. If I recall correct, I think this was the first watch worn on the moon. Cool watch for sure.
