on a canal street binge

It Might be a great choice to collect, rosconey! If you work at it, you can come close to getting an example of every single knife they've produced. With other, older companies, it's nearly impossible.

I'm trying to get confirmation but I think that might be the first SFO knife Canal Street made. It first appeared right around the time their regular line started appearing. It's a bit smaller than their regular 4 bld congress, but the handle material hasn't appeared since on any of their other knives.

they have some more of that type material but with d-2 blades for $150plus-
new production-

paper work photo shows 05 production on the ebay one i just bought,so it might be a early canal street piece

I was thinking the same thing. When another member "The Last Confederate", I think it was, showed off a Canal Street knife and said it was well made, I have been thinking about getting some. Now this blade forum buy with Gus, I jumped on it. I am not exactly sure about a ring knife, but if this turns out to be a well made & beautiful knife, one that will be too beautiful to carry, but I will anyway, I think I might buy a whole collection in STAG of course.

Maybe we could get a Blade Forum set, around 4 to 5 knives all in stag. (I know Gus is up to his ears in this group buy, maybe I shouldn't mention this right now.)

I think this may be the blue stag handles you're thinking of, not the blue jigged bone. There is also a red stag model for $150+. I believe they made 50 blue stag and 25 red stag, both in four blade congress patterns.

ahhhh -ok-
im new to nice slip joints-only ever had low cost schrades and bucks with plastic handles

what is a SFO ?

It's a Special Factory Order, made usually for an outside contractor (like me) to sell sell as a private design or brand.

The blue jigged congress was an SFO for Red Hill Cutlery. I heard a story that Canal Street wanted to use the name Walden Knife Co for their new name, and actually had these knives tang stamped as such. Afterward, they found out the name was still licensed and had to ditch it for Canal Street Cutlery. In the meantime, there are supposedly some blue jigged knives floating around with the Walden name on them.

Don't feel bad; to me, they are the backbone of the "working knife", and I, and probably a few others, have a bunch ourselves.
