I don't dare to comment on others cause I'm not that familiar with them.
 
I've had half a dozen or so Spydies, 10-11 BMs, and 3 Emersons. No comment on SOG. Have owned two of those, both FBs. Both were fine, but both were purchased over 10 years ago.
Benchmade 8 Best materials, and best overall quality of the group, in my experience, excellent customer service.

Spyderco 7 Good materials, good quality, excellent customer service.

Emerson 5 Good materials, but roughly finished. Killer designs-poor execution, IMO. Kind of an "I love them, BUT..." sort of thing. No exp. with how they handle problems, but I got quick, friendly service when I ordered some skull clips awhile back.
 
In my experience their quality has been about equal (and that's ONE guy's experience). Some of each brand that I've owned were "perfect", while some of each had some little things that were nit-pickable. Gave a slight edge to BM, cause of better liner locks, and bladesteels in general, though it looks like Spyderco is going with more VG-10 in favor of "lesser" steels, and I bet we see some more S30V out of both of them in the near future. If it were one particular knife vs another, it would depend on alot of individual stuff, not the brand.
I'll edit my post, since the Emerson comments somehow became a run-on with the Spyderco ones:o

Benchamde would get a 10, but some of there policies are less than perfect

Never owned many SOGs

Emerson has nice designs, but there quality control is lacking
