I was at a gun & knife show today, and picked up a new Boa, and a Mini-Task to add to my collection of the Ken Onion models.
Anyway when I got it home, I happen to look on the side of the blade, and it said 440-C(I thought it was a misprint on blade). It surprised me as I remember them being done in ATS-34. I went to Knifecenter website, and looked it up, and on one page it said ATS-34, and on another it said 440-C.
My question is does anyone know the reason for the change??

If no one knows, I will call Kershaw the first of the week, and inquire.
I'm still going to keep it, as I've been wanting one for awhile to add to my collection.
At least I know it is the latest run, as the dealer I bought it from said he just got them in last week.
Any info is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure my mini-task is ATS-34. My Random Task is 440V. I'm not sure why they would switch to 440C. Be interested to see what becomes of this one.

Well I called Kershaw today, and talked to Customer Service, and they said they did changed the steel on the Min-Task to 440-C, and it was NOT a mis-print on my blade. She said they changed about 6 months ago from ATS-34, and she did not know about it until some dealers called as asked "whats-up?". She said the only info she had was they were having trouble getting ATS-34, and was all they told her. I told her it was quite a surprise to me, as I don't remember Kershaw ever using 440-C before, and all she could said was it surprised her also, and she couldn't tell me anymore.
I asked about heat treat, and she did not have any info on that either.
The only other comment she made was "well you know you have one of the newer models, and all the previous bugs in the Mini-Task should be worked out".
My last comment to her was I hope they have the heat treat down, and will hold a good edge, cause I am leary to how well it will hold edge retention compared to ATS-34.I told her I was going to keep the knife anyway, and will just have to see how good the edge retention is compared into 440-C to ATS-34.
I am a little disappointed, but like I said, I will give it a chance and hope for the best.
Don't get me wrong I like 440-C, have a few customs in it, and works well, but I felt that Kershaw had the heat treat down pretty well on their ATS-34, and I feel they might be getting into unfamiliar territory by going to 440C.
She did say she did not think they were changing any of the other Ken Onion models to 440-C.
Hope I have been of some help here in getting what info I could from Kershaw themselves, and also give you other Kershaw knife loves the heads-up.
