? on my Vapor

Hi,

Just bought my first Kershaw, a Vapor, today. I know it's not as nice as the ones you guys have. But it is a Kershaw:thumbup:

The question is about the frame-lock. I have one other frame-lock, a Sheffield, (made by GreatNeck Tool). The lock on the Sheffield goes all the way over the width of the blade. And matches perfectly. On my new Vapor, the lock only only goes over about 1/2 of the way. Is this a problem to worry about?

The only disappointment that I have, is that I had to remove the pocket clip. As a lefty, it interfered with opening the blade. And there is no provision to re-attach it to the other side.:( Guess I will just have to carry it loose.

Thanks!

As a linerlock or framelock ages, it moves gradually to the right. It's not good to have it all the way over, especially if it is a thin liner or the fit is loose, since it can actually jam between the blade and the frame in the worst cases. Proper fit is like your Vapor. A quarter to halfway across sounds perfect.

You got yourself one of the really nice inexpensive knives.

welcome to the forums, and don't worry, every kershaw is just that....a kershaw!

check out STRs backyard knife works here at BF if you aren't comfortable drilling yourself, but im sure someone here has drilled knives for lefthanded carry, and should go a long way to making it your own.

+1 on the boss said.:thumbup::D;)

Hi,

Thanks Guys! Makes perfect sense once pointed out.

I more of an old fashion kind of guy when it comes to knives. I like old traditonal designs, like the Opinel or a Stockman slip-joint. This Vapor is my first foray into "modern" styles. I think I'll be updating my taste a little.

I've already thought about drilling and tapping to remount the clip. As a machinist by trade, it wouldn't be very difficult for me. Except that I checked Kershaw's website. They state that the handle is a heat-treated 410 stainless. Tiny taps and hardened steel are a poor mix.

Again, Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the links! I liked the minutiae review. Glad to see that someone else can get a little "retentive" once in a while.:D I wish you hadn't posted the review about the black TiN coated Vapor. I gotta have that!

dalee - first welcome to the forums -
but that's what we're all about! ;):p
... at least it's not going to cost you too much -
I've seen the 1640BLK listed as low as $23
the larger 1650BLK Vapor II as low as $25
and the regular 1650 Vapor II is as low as $20
(using froogle search)

A $25 Sebenza? or is this just Vapor too?

I'm gonna push the R.A.M. on ya. It's set up so you can attach
the clip on either side and is very lefty friendly. The slide lock
release is easy to get to from either hand....and it's out of the
norm for what you carry and it fires open like a mutha!!

down a never ending road. ;)
