I have been adding fixed blade knives to my collection and am wondering about the best small portable sharpeners to carry in/on them?

Suggestions for two styles please:

1. Tactical-type sheath w/larger pocket for accessories.

2. Sheaths w/ pencil-loop holder on the side.

Thanks...Mike

For the loop type holders I haven't found anything better than the EZ Lap Model M sharpener. Its a diamond hone, and is very rough at first. It will take a break in time but after that you'll have a lifetime sharpener. One model is brass and another is aluminum. The aluminum model is noticeably lighter.

For small pocket stones I've found that a good quality ceramic stone or small rod is good to go. I have a couple of Spyderco ceramics that are great for pouches but I dont know if they are available any more. The rods you can find in almost any sharpening supply house.

I wish Blade tech would bring back the tek-lok with the DMT sharpener in it.

I'll second the vote for the ezelap, I've used those for years and they work very well. As Leatherman said they take a bit to break in but last forever. The one on this sheath is probably 20years old now. The sheath I just made a couple of weeks ago, thinking about redoing it and adding a loop next to the sharpener for a exotac fire steel.
