well don't sit there any longer....i got one from a friend as a bday present today....wow that is a lot of knife for the money....it is MUCH bigger than i thought it would be...it is rock solid when open too....the only complaint i have is i can't flip it open without alot of wrist action...i know it's my fault because i have never had a flipper and have really bad technique....any tips would be appreciated from you pros......i am a very happy camper and urge anyone on the fence to get one....i always thought because of the price it wouldn't be THAT nice....well it is...the handles is nice...blade is evn nicer.....should i go on?:D.....just get one!.....thanks to kershaw for making a great knife....i like it more than my sg2 blur i had.....ryan

Well, it's been my experience that you can't judge Kershaws by the price. They are indeed a whole lotta knife for the money.

Thanks for the post. Right now I'm torn between a Lahar and a JYDII.

i've always wanted a jyd...might have to get one after this but i'm trying to wait and try and get one of the new shallots with zdp soon....ryan

Quapaw...the best answer is get BOTH!

I love my Lahar but unfortunately don't get to use it a whole lot since the people here are very sheeplike and its a damn big blade. It is probably my sharpest knife, and I haven't touched it since I got it. I can cut circles out of paper while holding it in the air, and its a pretty thick blade too!

I may indeed get both. :D

I want a BIG knife, with a thick blade. Read a lot of good reviews about the JYDII, but not much about Lahar. Maybe the size is why it's not so popular.
Anyway, fie on the sheeple. I already have a reputation as a grumpy old coot.

Thanks for the recommend.

The JYDII aint exactly a lil knife fellas...it and the Lahar are very close in size...

I've been carrying my Lahar for a little over a month now. It is a lot of knife for the $$! I love the VG-10, as a little change in the geometry creates a real cutting machine.

Ryan, as for the flipper, give it some time. I re-lubed mine (didn't tale it apart or polish anything) and with a little break in time, it flips effortlessly now.

JYD II or Lahar? I'd go Lahar first. Too much knife to pass up!

thanks spx...when u say u lubed it up....what did u use....it feels a little stiff so i thought it would break in some more....pluse practicing with my technique will help alot i'm sure.....it's laser sharp but once i sharpen it i'll thin it out some and get the recurve out of it....i think it'll cut a little better once a hair thinner.....ryan

For flipper break-in, I use Dura-Lube in a hypodermic needle to get the stuff down in the pivot area. Then I just sit and work the blade a lot!

I'm partial to re-curves, so all I did to mine was to take it to 30 degrees. ol had his reground by Tom (10 per side I think?) and he said it was amazing!

To add, although the Lahar is a flipper, the ball/detent construction is different than our USA made flippers. You will really need to dial in your technique to allow for the blade to fire without wrist action. Other than the above mentioned lube jobs, a little tweaking of the pivot may also be in order.

thanks for the info on the flipper guys....it's getting alot easier...and thanks again to kershaw for making a great edc....a mini lahar would be beyond great....ryan:thumbup:

As far as flipper technique goes, the key is to actually push towards the pivot, not towards the butt of the knife.
