On the fence about a Military, HELP!

I have been debating the Military for some time now. I have a Para and love it, but every time I read about the Military, I feel like my spyderco collection as small as it is, is missing out not having the Military in it. Will the size just be so shocking to those around me? I love my para size, but am not a fan of the lock on it. I love my stretch. Love my manix2. Does anyone have comp. pics of the Military next to some spydies, benchmade full size grip, Al Mar Sere2000, etc...? I have watched the Youtube vids, and really am close to pulling the trigger on one. Is it worth waiting for the Newer model coming out? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Good timing. I just finished a blog post on my left-handed Military about five minutes ago.

HERE IT IS.

I don't have the comparison pics but I've been using mine in a social setting for the past four weeks and haven't had so much as a funny look when I use it.

i used to think that liner locks very not good. then i felt the military and sage 1's lock. the military has one of the best liner locks on the market. i would not hesitate to get one.

Military is a great knife to own and use. I carry one everyday along with my other stuff.
Do not worry about the lock, it is rock solid on the 5 that I own. If I doubted the locks ability, I would not have it riding in my pocket 7 days a week.
This is just my opinion:
Get a C36GPE (this is the plain edge, standard issue Military), and carry it for a week. It wont break the bank and will give you a good idea as to the design and functionality is all about. It's great actually. If you dont like it, most places can and will accept returns (just dont go battoning in the woods with it).

When you first open the box, you think "WOW! This thing is freakin' HUGE!" Then you put it in your pocket and it vanishes. You carry it and use it for a week and it shrinks to a completely normal size, while things like the Delica become keychain knives. ;)

DO IT!!

You won't be sorry.

As for the size being shocking I believe that is largely how a knife is presented and used. I've used my D2 military as a cheese knife a a very crowded winery and didn't seem to raise an eyebrow. For the record Cheddar will put a patina on D2!

If you purchase one and determine that it is not for you, it would probably be pretty easy to sell it here and get 80% of your money out of it.

With all due respect "Bolt" what's there to debate about? DO IT!!!! There is no other production knife I know of that can beat the Spyderco Military. Especially if you can land one with one of the more exotic blade steels like D-2, S90V, or BG-42. But even if you snag an older 440V which is one of my personal favorites you'll still be furlongs ahead of the competition.

Only the Benchmade Rukus and that high end folder of Fallkniven's even run a distant second as far as I'm concerned.

There's a huge reason that the Military model has been in Spyderco's line up since 1997. IT's because it's an awesome knife and it ain't going away anytime soon either. Come back and tell us about it when you finally get it. :)

It's been awhile since I EDCed one because it's so big, but it does carry really well.

IMO, the Military is still Spyderco's flagship model. It's a classic design and you're definitely missing out if you haven't owned one.

If you are big guy with big hands you will love it, I carry one most of the time, I have several versions of the Millie, been EDC'ing the CPMD2 Version for the past few days, I have said this before and I stick to it, If I could have only one Pocket knife it would be a Military!!!!!!!!!!!

I can post some comparison pics if you like that highlight the differences between the para and the mil but there are many around that you have prolly already seen.

Personally I think they look about the same except when in use because the tip of the iceberg looks the same (clipped carry). Only you can probably predict what the non knife people in your life will think but how you use it can make a big difference.

If you are on the fence, I agree that you should jump in. Worst case you will not EDC it all the time but certainly you will use it someof the time, right?

You guys are killing me. I mean helping me, I mean killing me. I have both legs on the fence now, hanging over the buy it side, but what is the story with an upgraded millie coming out? Should I wait? Is the new one that is coming very different?

I would get a Basic S30V to start with, see if you like it then get other versions as they come out. You may get the bug like me and others have, every time a new versions comes out got to have it.

The Military II that is in the works may still be a year or more out. Release dates are never set in stone, and many things can delay the release of a model. Sal catches so much crap when he gives a tenative date that doesn't pan out due to some problem that he probably shouldn't even mention new knives until they are ready for release.

No one outside Spyderco knows for certain what the new version of the Military will be like at this point. Sal did mention it would have a different lock and would be produced alongside the original at least for a while. I personally think the Military is too good to delay while waiting for something else that may or may not be better.

Correction, the tip of the 'berg for the Para is actually *bigger* IMO (see photo).

As for the Military 2...IDK, but I think I would like to have both (thinking that it will some day be nice to have an example of the original Millie). That said, I have a hard time believing that all users will prefer the Military 2 over the original...I could be wrong, but the bar is set pretty high in my book (there may be room to change things, but not all changes are necessarily improvements for every user (A lot of guys thought that the Ti mil would be the ultimate, but while I like mine, I prefer the G-10 models).

Happy hunting...PM on the left, Millie on the right.

I agree, but it is still too early to say. I'd rather not speculate too much, I would not want to eat any humble pie later on.
I will say this, the equivalent to the "other side of the coin": The improvements could be so practical and well received, it could very well outsell the original given the same amount of production time. I do not underestimate the creative juices of Sal. If the Military came from his mind and heart, imagine what other awesome designs are in the works. That said, it would stand to reason that it could only get better. IMO of course.:D

if you dont have Military , you dont have Spyderco collection.
Mili knife #1 to get from Spyderco .
