Mora's are about $12 and seem like they'd hold up fairly well. What about this knife. It's blade is a little longer. I know nothing about the steel it's made out of but really like the look and handle. Just from the look and material does this look like it would hold up to some abuse and keep a sharp edge (or be easy to sharpen)?

I like and trust Kershaw. They do AUS-8 well, don't know about AUS-6. I would guess it would be pretty easy to sharpen but not hold an edge that long.

That said, you could get a KaBar (or Ontario, if you wanna buy stuff from them) Bowie or similar for that price, which would take a little more abuse.

or do you think the steel on the Roughneck would not be as strong as the steel you find on a Mora?

AUS 6 is farily rust resistant, a bit soft so it's easy to sharpen but doesn't hold the edge real long. Comparable to 440A.

i've had a couple of aus6 knives and it didn't impress me very much. I'd have to go with the mora over the kershaw as far as bang for the buck. just my .02.
