hey folks, here's a thought;I personally would not buy several swamp rats with the intent to resell at a profit, knowing that others have been lining up to get one for weeks/months,my karma would wind up in the toilet! And,I have seen a couple on e-bay,but refuse to buy from anyone other than the folks who make them!!!You who have bought multiples to resell-you're gonna get yours, you know that, right?

Supply and demand, my friend. My grandpa bought 2 1969 Camaro's brand new off the lot. He drove one and stored the other in a barn. He sold the second one a few years ago for $50,000 with 2500 original miles.

Moral of the story: I'm gonna buy as many Swamp Rats as I want and when supply runs out I'll sell some of them for $50,000 apiece. :D :D

Perhaps if they ramped up their production there wouldn't be such high scalper's prices on the aftermarket. They make a great product but some people aren't willing to wait the better part of a year just to get one of their knives. I have purchased many of their knives on Ebay and am more than willing to pay a slight premium to get a knife I can have and use instead of being frustrated for months on end waiting to get one from the factory. - I understand that all good things come to those who wait but with these guys it borders on the ridiculous.

KARMA...hmmmmmmm, doesn't Earl Hickey talk about Karma!:D :D
By the way I agree with cstorr2004

I don't mind the people who buy quantity from the company for resale later- they are performing a service for those who miss out on the production window (I'm thinking Busse here). They are tying up quite a bit of capital and risking getting stuck with the knives (yeah- that's going to happen!) so they deserve to make a profit.

I do have a problem with some of the sharks on the exchange who only seem to be there to make a profit at other people's expense. They are easily recognized because they always have multiple knives for sale and their prices are always higher than the previous going price. I don't know how they continue to sell knives, but they do (but not to me!).

I didn't really care about this so much until I noticed one individual buy all the knives that someone had for sale when he was selling multiples of the same knife (for about $30 more a piece) at the same time. This pretty much guarantees that even if someone is willing to let a knife go for a good price, instead of someone who wants a knife getting a good deal, the shark just gets to make more profit. With that going on, why would anyone want to put a knife up for a good price?

I don't believe any of the speculation about secondary market prices going down in the near future "when the new line is available" for the following reasons:

1. Some people are always going to want the "originals" of anything. Take a look at what the straight handled Busses are selling for versus the newer models.
2. A lot of people like the Res-C/SR101 combo which will no longer be available.
3. Personal opinion here - I don't think SRKW will ever get to the point where you will be able to go to their website, order ANY model that they produce at any time, and get it delivered within a few days.

IMO, all of the original models, especially the Camp Tramps and Battle Rats, will continue to go up in value.

Oh great, here we go again. I know it's too hot to go play outside guys, but is it possible that we could do something other then bitch about supply/demand and secondary market values. It's completely pointless as our discussions about this will NEVER change anything.

PoorGuy, nice pics!!. You are certainly rich in Rats, my friend. I like that arc arrangement, nice shot. What is that big, satin mother-of-all rats on the left end??

Thanks gstella. The two big ones on the left are both Rat Daddys. Far left is the LE (limited with a satin finish) and the other is a CG (combat grade with black crinkle coat).

PoorGuy, WOW !!, really...really nice knives, Awesome Collection I like those red G-10 scales, its beautiful:D

Thanks guys. The micarta rats picture is a couple of months old. The collection is always changing, but it's the most recent one I have.

yep. im gonna get mine for selling to someone at a price their willing to pay. for selling to a person who asks me to give them a knife at a price that is specified before the transaction takes place.

for that, i deserve whatever i have coming to me.

(noting, this is not a product that anyone "needs" like food or water.)

as has been stated on previous threads on this subject - you work with what you have as a company. not all profit is worth it on a personal level for the person who is making the product. the customer does not dictate what the maker goes through to get them a product. If increased production means running double shifts, not sleeping at night, and putting your employees through heck and high water (when their already working hard) - it is not my place to tell them to do so.

I'm sure that swamp rat is actively trying to find ways to keep up with increasing demand, and part of that is only offering knives when they are able to make them in enough quantity to support such demand.

(ymmv, all of wich is my opinion, not to be held as swamp rats or any other companies)

Shane

WOW!

But I see many SAR's and no custom Dog Skinner... ;)

ok,now yer just being mean...all those shiny rats...mmmmmmmm...gonna have to download a pic of that and go and have a private moment.Seriously, tho',nice to see all those well loved rats got a good home!

Thanks WolfDragon. My wife calls our home "The Halfway House for Wayward Rodents". --- She just doesn't get it. ;) :D

If I knew the "old line" was was the end of the line for res-c, sr-101 I would have bought multiples of certain models just because they were near the magic "perfect knives" for my needs. I won't buy them from the secondary market, And I doubt I will buy the scrapyard versions. Maybe one, but if the blades are thicker than the old line, probably not.
