On the subject of green G-10 handled Emo's

I think I heard, and I repeat think (they tell me I enjoyed the 70's ;)) that EKI will no longer offer green G-10 as a handle material option? Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks..

Update....Talked to Peggy at EKI today, and I'm afraid it's true. Upside is, they still have a fair amount of it left for knives, so it won't be for a while. Unfortunately, it is an eventuality.
:( Now don't all you Usual Suspects go making a run on green handled Emo's. I need some for my custom/production! ;)

Any word as to why? Is it to keep costs down? Not enough demand? Some other reason? Inquiring minds want to know.:) :(

I think Peggy said it was because of a price increase from their supplier. I'm calling EKI tomorrow, so I'll post afterward and clarify.

The green is a little too bright in my opinion. An olive drab would look better.

In my experience, certain lots seem to be perthaps a bit brighter than others. It doesn't really make much difference to me. They tend to darken with regular use anyway. At least with my grubby hands.

Ok, that news is going to make a dent in the pocket book faster than expected. Any chance that they might consider using another color of g-10? I know that black is the perfect color for production, it works for everyone, but color is nice:) I think that a blue g-10 Commander would look pretty cool.

I just got off the phone with Peggy at EKI. She said the phase out of the Green G-10 was because of price increase and also availability. She said there were no plans to add any other color. SO..... That be that!

nonbox - I was thinking about your post re your opinion on green G-10 here for the last few days. Just last week I bought on the secondary market a 2000 Commander BT. It came with fairly dark OD green G-10 scales, as opposed to the lighter variaty you usually find. The folder looks decidedly military. The finish was also a little different. On the lighter scales, you'll notice that they have a flat finish. These darker scales have a shinier finish to them, almost as if they were made with extra resin, or perhaps a different type. Hope I'm not beating a dead horse, but given the topic, I thought it to be a point of interest.

Kwaiken,
I agree there are darker green scales. BladeArt had some
CQC 7's with dark green handles and black blades. I'm pissed at myself for not getting one. They took the pic off of their
site. Sure wish I could have gotten one of those!!:(

All of my Emersons have the bright green handles. I still
like them.:D Now that they are discontinuing the green handles,
now I have an excuse to get the ones I have wanted.

Cool Commander collection, Chip! Since the green handles have seen their day, all the more reason to snag a few more. :D

From the looks of it, you and I both love Commanders in general. I have 12 so far. Mini's, regulars, and Supers - all in different configurations and colors like your's, a 5 Year on backorder, and a production/custom on backorder. A green damascus Commander. What else? ;)

That is a beautiful collection Chip. All I have are my '02 Commander, CQC7 and a La Griffe...but yours is great...

Kwaiken56 - Do you have a pic of your collection?

These collections make me a little envious I have to say:)

Thanks guys! I just got a SOCFK Green T Tanto and on Wednesday,
my Satin Super Commander will be here from TAD. And I'm
on the list for the 5 year Commander. I really like the
Commander, but have to admit, I love the mini Commander.:D

The green Damascus Commander sounds cool, hope you post a pic
when you get her. Do you know how long of a wait you have??

I love Minis too. I just bought that Recupero customized one from Ida @ BladeArt this morning. I called early and told her to hold it until my wife left for work. I called back to confirm, and she goes, "Sorry Al...I sold it...:(....TO YOU! Ida about died laughing. Al about died from a heart attack. :o She's such a stinker sometimes - but great ALL the time.

I'm not sure how long a wait for the damascus Commander. The no-bolster construction will cut way down on the wait, per Peggy.

Going to take some pics of my Commander collection to show you guys as soon as my ES1-M BT arrives.:)
