Some people like those weak little blunt tweezers that come with your SAK. They are better than your fingernails but not that good. My preference is for a good quality pair of jeweler's tweezers. These have needle sharp tips and are quite strong.
Admittedly, I have access to these and scalpels in droves as part of my work. The tweezers are a goto little piece of kit though. Great for slivers and with their sharp points you can really dig in there and then the tips have enough grab to actually remove the pieces of prickles embedded in your skin.
The tweezers fit nicely in a pen holder loop in your maxpedition and I also keep a set in my lock'n'lock PSK/FAK. Besides wound cleaning, they can be used to spark a firesteel, picking up little insects and other critters or removing ticks.
So grab a couple of pair and stick them in your kit! A little piece of nalgene tubing can be used as a cap to protect the tips and to keep them from sticking through your pack.
