Tip of the hat to Uncle Timbo Uncle Timbo for the heads up and jogging my memory I had this knife.

February 20th, 1962, John Glenn becomes the first American to orbit the Earth (3 times) aboard Friendship 7.
Alan Shepard was the first American in Space, May 5th, 1961 and I assume that to be the 1961-1986 Anniversary.
His flight lasted 15 minutes and reached an altitude of 116 miles but was pretty much an up-down ride without orbiting.

Among many accomplishments, John Glenn was a decorated fighter pilot in both WWII and the Korean War. Awarded six Distinguished Flying Crosses and eighteen Air Medals. In 1957 he made the first coast to coast supersonic flight taking a continuous, panoramic photograph of the United States. Served in the United States Senate from 1974 to 1999. Flew into space again at the age of 77 in 1998. A remarkable life. Read the Wiki article about this fascinating man "with all the right stuff" here.

"The Right Stuff"
was a 1983 film about military test pilots and the early Mercury Astronauts.

My notes say there were 130 of these 317 Trailblazer knives but I do not recall where that info came from.

Yes. I have been cancer free for about 15 months now. I still get an immunotherapy treatment every 3 weeks, but the last four scans have been clear. I have another scheduled in a couple weeks, and expect it will be clear also.

That's good news for sure. I'm sitting here in the waiting area while my wife is receiving a Lumpectomy procedure. Her breast cancer is back after 15 years.
