Hello again everyone. The last couple of modification projects have left me hungry for more. I've done some surfing, & with a little seasonal/thematic inspiration (Samhain approaching - that's Halloween to all you non-pagans) I've come up with what I think will be a really nifty semi-original project. Along the lines of a kit, but much more than a weekend project.
What I'm planning out is a BIG dagger of kinda-medieval influence. Basic-but-big blade profile, carved wood handle, engraved pommel. I've found a suitable blade (10" damascus at www.uai.org ), but in my searching so far, I haven't found any online suppliers with the other stuff I'll need to make this dream a reality. I have already done a search on the forum here to try & locate one or two, but none of them seem to have quite what I'm looking for. I'm unsure on the dimensions at the moment, but what I'd like to find are: nickel/silver or some other silvery-looking alloy piece, suitable for use as a guard (I would prefer a semi-precious alloy, unless the cost is going to be prohibitive), small amount of nickel/silver or similar alloy to do some "binding" with (am I correct in thinking I might be better off searching for jewellers supplies for this?), and an "almost-ready-to-go" damascus pommel piece. I'll be ok with finding handle, pinning & spacing materials, but these other items are aesthetically crucial. I want to take my time on this & do it "right" and I don't mind if I have to spend a little extra coin on it to get the materials I'm after.
Any ideas for online suppliers, or any supplier in SW Ontario that I could call or visit, will be (once again!!) greatly appreciated!
