They made a karda to go with a khuk.

See :o

Now that's a karda.

Anyone heard of Tora Khukri Supplies?

Lots of fakes on Ebay this week. Be careful out there.

I bought one like the first one from the same guy. No karda in mine, but 2 cast iron chakma. It's a great old khuk. I've seen the same guy sell several of this type on Ebay. Looks like they came from the same area. This is mine in this

THREAD.

I have had a few dealings with Tora but haven't bought their stuff. Simon is a real friendly guy but I think his khuks are probably the equivalent of Khukuri House or whatever they are calling themselves nowadays.

I won't buy khuk's from anybody but HI !!

The one with the 12 inch blade and the fullers looks really nice. Wish somebody had bought one and could give feedback cause I really like that one.

Interesting to see more people selling them. The khuk I got from GK is my all time favorite. The edge retention and sharpness is so great. I love my HI knives but I feel like I have spent an inordinate amount of time putting an edge on them. Nice to have one that already has a nice edge. Even the tip will shave.

I like how the quality is comapered to HI.

Hollowdweller, I glad you like the GK khukuri. I used to have a problem with knives that came dull. The first one that came sharp was a Large Twistmaster from CS. It was shaving sharp right out of the box, and with my hairy arms that's saying something. (it used to get me some odd looks from customers at the camerastore where I worked)
Lately a sharp blade hasn't been the biggest concern, my latest folder is an Okapi sheep foot. I had to use the course side of the diamond plate to put an edge on it. It cost $6.00. The blade touches the wood of the handle so I strop it against my jeans before I use it (I wonder what grip denim is?). The HI khukuris are a great price for the quality you generaly get (yes, the quality is variable but that means it can behigher sometimes too) and of the 3 I got so far, 1 Had a perfectly acceptable edge, 1 was ok, and the Bilton needed work. I hope to get of my a.. butt this weekend and put a worthy edge on it.

The GK khukuris sound awfuly good. I look forward to hearing about the ones you get. The hardest thing is to find a good review for The GK and Tora Khukuris.

Red,

The best edge I have ever had is on that GK bonecutter. Next would be Ganga Ram, shaving but rolls when you chop with it, next Sher BAS, not shaving but sharp and thick enough to be durable. Next Sirupati, next M43 by swastika, next 18 AK by Trishul. I have managed to get a decent edge on all but the AK. It seems very hard but at the same time gets dull very quickly. I keep tryin' though!

I hope to get some more GK's, but right now most of the other models they offer I already have HI's like them, so will probably wait till they come out with something new.

;)

The AK is hard but the edge rolls? That's weird. Sorry to hear that though. About the Ganga Ram, did you see Yvsa's post about sending a Khukuri for hardening?

No. Edge rolls on Ganga. I am attempting to take the edge back gradually to where it is thicker. Steel is plenty hard. Still shaves even after use and getting wavy, so I think it is just too thin. Makes for great machete action though.:D

Art takes care of all the rework on the HI kukri's and I think he has a way of hardening them without taking them apart.:D
I think all you have to do is contact Art and get the okay from him. Art does happen to be really busy right now so it's a bit of a wait, he told me a couple of months and that works for me as I have other things I Must do before the end of the year!!!!
My kardas that I got from AC are still wrapped up in the brown paper they came in. I sort of messed with one the other night just a little and I'm liking the way they are going to turn out!!!!

I have found HI's quality to be very good to excellent over the years and thought that Bill only sent me the extra dull ones.;)
But as everyone is probably very much aware of my biggest gripe is the thin flat or hollow ground edges.:(
If my gripe was too damn serious I wouldn't still be buying or trading for the kukris I like such as the Foxy Folly/Heavy Fighter and 12" AK to name a couple.:D
BUT, I have an advantage over most folks here in that I have a good grinder/belt sander that I can rework the edges to suit myself.
The problem with that is that sometimes you will lose to much edge to rework to make it worthwhile.
At 3 5/8" the FF can afford to sacrifice a little bit of edge, but I wouldn't want to go over 3/16" at all!!!!
And I like working on them a little bit, with little being the key word.
On anything else I really prefer the as forged blades so I can do my own thing to my own, everything but the blade, kukri. :p ;) :D

I dun furgot that I had a spell checker agin.
