Hi,
Anyone know where I could find a One Armed Bandit for my buck 110. Preferably on the internet.

By the way this place is great.

Mr. Houser,
Thank you very much, I enjoy the forums and am finding that one can find guidance in just about any area.

Thanks again, Caliblades

As an absolutely last resort, if you can't find it with a dealer, I do have one put away.

By "one armed bandit" do you mean the little cylinder and screw arrangment that clamps onto a blade, or the older spring steel version with the "flipper" that slides on to the back of the blade under tension? I have both on some older Bucks, but I liked the spring steel version better. I haven't seen one of those for sale in a long time. I think I got both of those models at Smokey Mountain Knives quite a while ago. I think SMKW still has the screw type, but has anyone seen the spring steel type around anymore?

OMC,
I have not heard of the spring steel one you talked about. It sounds interesting.

How well do these work?

Anyone care to post a short review?

I'm pretty impressed with the Bandit. I tried it on three Bucks a couple days ago.

The firsty was a standard 110. It worked well. Opening wasn't as easy as on a normal one-handed opening knife, but pretty good. You have to remember that you're opening against a bit of resistance on a strong lockback. Overall, I liked it.

The second was my PCKS 110. It has finger grooved, stag handles. This wasn't a good match for the Bandit. The stag handles make the knife noticably wider than a standard 110. The Bandit just wasn't wide enough for this knife.

The third was my Buck560. This was a match made in heaven. The excellent, yet thin grip of the 560 allowed me to get lots of leverage against the lock.

The big key to the Bandit is placement. You have to attach the stud on the correct part of the blade. If you don't get the placement right for your hand, it can be pretty hard to open the knife.

Oh yah. The set screw on the Bandit didn't make any marks on any of my knives. I didn't have it on very long, but I screwed it down pretty hard.

I remember the flipper but had forgotten about it until OMC mentioned it. It was a formed steel clip that snapped onto the blade and locked into the nail clip. It was bent out on the side to provide a purchase for the thumb to open the blade one handed.

Because it snapped into the nail clip it was pretty far down on the blade and the leverage was a bit off for easily opening the blade all the way one handed. It did work, though.

This was back in the time when most of these gizmos were declared illegal in some states and this is probably why this particular one died out. Also, the M284, One Armed Bandit was a much more popular accessory due to it's ability to be placed on the blade at the proper position to provide the right leverage for easily opening the knife.

I haven't seen one in a long time and doubt that they are still around. I don't remember what they cost.

I have one on my current belt carry knife, a Buck 112 Ranger. It works great. I previously had one on my 110 Folding Hunter and it also worked just fine on that knife too. I think the best thing about the One Armed Bandit is that you can set it exactly where you want it for the most efficient and comfortable blade opening.

I thought about getting two of these things for the two knives I just
ordered from Petes'. I then saw these thing called quickdraw sheaths.
They look kinda ugly but struck me as and excellent method of deploying ones knife one handed. Does anyone have any expexience with
this type of sheath. I'm kinda new so forgive me if I should of started a new thread with this topic.

I just received two "ONE-ARMED BANDITS" from SMKW @ $4.99 each. I put one on a 110 clone (Frontier) and it worked very well, though a little stiff. I put the other on a Gerber Gator (large), and this was a match made in Heaven! They make a larger one for blades thicker than 1/8", but I haven't tried it yet. These little devices are very well made and well finished, and appear indestructable.IMHO, it was money well spent.

I have had good results with both sizes of Bandits as well. AS for the Gerber Gator FYI they now make a Gator model called the Stud Gator with a built in ambidextrous thumb stud. It works like a dream. Now if they would only put a pocket clip and a lanyard hole on it...

Though the one - armed bandit works OK on a 110 (you have to put some muscle into it), I've gotten excellent results mounting one on my SOG Tomcat. Opens up just as smooth as can be.

Remember guys, these come in 2 sizes. The smaller of the 2 fits the 110 perfectly so that is the one to get. I have an old Schrade folding hunter with a thick stock and I had to buy the larger size. Same price from SMKW.

Aagh! SMKW just sold out of the small size! All of the buck people must have stampeded them:p
