I recieved a wonderful gift from a great forumite yesterday, and wanted to show it off, but mostly this is about what came ON the scabbard. It is a frog with a neat design and execution by Andy, but with a unique belt / sling hanger as envisioned by Dick (Sogguy.) Dick gave the design input to Andy, and he incorporated that into his already clever idea for the frog. (Andy also refinished the satisal handle to what you see here.)

What is cool about this is you can simply hang it on your belt, or change the strap and run it across your back or even side in just about any position.

As with all of Andy's work the leather is very strong, well stitched and nicely decorated.

Here are just a few pics taken this morning. The model is my son Erik, who just got off graveyard shift from his job as a police officer.

A couple of side views hanging off the belt:

And ready for patrol with his new issue gear :D: (You do _not_ want to let this guy catch you driving drunk! Don't let the flowers fool you; he's really mean. ;))

This is a great design and a nice adaptation of the standard frog. Kudo's to Dick for the belt/sling concept and to Andy for the frog design and flawless execution. Any interested parties should see if Andy would agree to make up one of these for you. I have a few more pics I'll post of closeups of the frog and hanger.

I really appreciate the thought and consideration behind this gift, and will always treasure it.

Here are a few more pics, closeups of the work. You can see the effort put into the leather work:

And, just because I have them, a couple front and back with my rare Tibetan Pillow Hound, Barkley:

Love the over the back carry. Looks like it will distribute the weight and be out of the way. Oh yeah, the bolo is pretty sweet too.

Whats that shootin' iron your holding?

Shann, that's my boy holding my ancient tricked out Mossberg 500. Had it close to 20 years and it's still going strong...

Yep, and both with stunning wood; fancy figure sisau and neem! Great snags for a couple of lucky guys.

...I'm getting a little bolo crazed myself....

Great gift and work.

The Himalayan sword by Master Kami Bura sold recently would look great with the behind the back carry . Would the wooden sheath loan itself to that ?
Personally that massive handle attracted me as much as the blade . A real eye catcher .

Norm these posts cracked me up. Is your son gonna pitch this as standard police issue equipment??? Could be a good contract for HI. LOL. Scare em straight kinda thinking. I like it. Maybe good for the Border Control Agents.

Thanks for the kind words. It took me several days looking at that dang bolo scabbard before coming up with something I thought was suitable. The bolo itself is one hell of a formidable blade. Satistal is a beautiful wood too. As with all woods finished by buffing with rouge, you really gotta sand that off to see the character. It really pops with just a little bit of sanding and some Watco's Danish Oil.

That is a really nice combo. The bolo looks really tough.

What would you do with it that you wouldn't use a large khukuri for? It is incredibly strong, but about the same weight as a 22" Chitlangi. I already have a big chit, but the bolo is very tempting.

Has anyone used it for anything besides killing cinder blocks? I wondered how it worked in the woods.

E-mail sent on rare Tibetan Pillow Hound:D !

Sorry, this one isn't available! He's a special breed able to find pillows in any environment known to man. You can take him out into the roughest terrain and he'll uncover a pillow or several. Great to take along camping. ;):D

Its big long handle allows for various one and two handed options. Plus Dave Rishar used the spine of his to smash a cinder block. I wouldn't do that with a chit. The spine on that particular bolo is extremely stout.

Thats a really nice carry system, and I could see this put to good use in the boreal forest for when you need the big blade. I wonder if the system would work with the knife on ones chest infront?

Yes, it can. With a longer strap it can be carried cross chest or at waist level as a cross draw. At waist level it is more on a horizontal plan.
