What would be best all around knife for a SWAT team member to use, a knife to bring camping used for light chopping (kindling), and maybe to be carried deer hunting?

Swampah, first, welcome to BladeForums, I would recomend the SOG Seal Revolver Tini finish (black blade for SWAT), with the Kydex sheath for everything you described except chopping. The knife is not really "blade" heavy enough to chop, but it will saw.
The camping and deer hunting fits the knife perfect, it weighs about 7 ounces, and the saw is designed for cutting trees up to about 5 inches, limbs or bone.

My second choice would be the Seal 2000, it too has been proven in the field. Using the Seal 2000 for camping I think would be good. I have never heard of anyone using it for deer hunting though, but I'm sure it would work just fine.

Hope this gives you a start.

Don´t think an all round SOG is there, maybe a slightly heavyier Seal 2000 with a top edge displaying the saw of the Revolver might do the trick, and let´s not forget the hammering handle of the Government Agent. Oh yeah, the handle of a Recondo including its gear toothed thumb rest. Don´t have it but looks very fitting. Zytec handle for me.
An all round SOG fixed blade is a great idea. For now, Revolver or Seal 2000 I say. Have absoluty no field experience with the latter two but looking at the design features, they should get the job done on any occasion. If you don´t mind weight and total inpractical bulkiness, the Tshark has done well at everything.

Welcome to the forums! If tyou are looking for a good hunting knife, the X-42 Field knife, Field Pup or Revolver are great!! I have used all 3 and really like them. The NW Ranger is also a good one as far as Camp/Hunting knive goes.

I currently have 15 SOGs and my main camp choices are the Government, Field knife, SEAL Revovler and Tech I (Think 6" SEAL with Brass Guard - More Camp knife, then Hunter) along with a good folder (X-42 Autoclip or Flash II) and a Multi tool! Government doesn't chop to well unless it's really light stuff, but it can be battoned threw things. Also has the Hammer Pomel which is nice. I've pounded many a tent peg in with mine. :D

SEAL 2000 and Bowie are also good Camp knives because they will actually handle soem chopping and splitting work. Though they are not quite as good at cutting Potatoes as the others I've mentioned.

Let me define some terms for you in the hopes that my post makes more sence. To me a Hunting knife is a knife that will be used for mainly food prep and general cutting/slicing. A Camp knife is a more Heavy duty knife that does more chopping slitting and some slicing. Normally a thicker rougher knife like the SEAL 2000 or Bowie. Sure they will cut up Carrots and Potatoes, but not as good as the Field knives, NW Ranger or Seal Revolver.

I like to bring a combo camping with me a Folder, hunter and Camp knife along with a multi-tool. That way all the bases are covered. And since I have so many SOGs I have a lot of different combos to pick from. Hope that helps a little.

SWAT team member ?? you gonna do double-duty with the knife, both work and play ??

Then I'd suggest Seal 2000 as the in-between choice. Not that heavy, not that cumbersome, and it will do the job.

The SOG Bowie (or Trident) would be my first choice, but it's just a tad light in the hand when chopping in the field. It works, it just takes longer. I always carry one whenever I'm hunting.

The other idea is the mighty Tigershark. There ain't nothing that the Tigershark can't do.....
but it is definitely a biggie to haul around if you're doing some SWAT team business.
I also always have a Tigershark with me when I'm hunting.

Cheers,

Carl

for me, the Government Agent's blade is a little too thin ..... which is to say, I've become quite spoiled with the 1/4" thick blades found on the Seal 2000 and the much older Tech I and Tech II. The extra heft is nice.

other than that bit of personal snootyness, the Government agent is much like my Kabar: it also does the job and has never let me down. I do like the round pommel for hammering, and the handle provides a good solid grip.

Cheers,

Carl
