One Big Grinder and One Little One or Two Big Ones?

I am nearly done making a new cart for my 2x72 OBM grinder and a 1x42 Rockwell with a treadmill motor. The cart is based on a big US General tool chest. It will hold pretty much whatever I want.

I am wondering if I should get rid of the Rockwell and make a second 2x72. I have a 2HP TEFC motor and a spare VFD. Making the rest of a grinder would be cheap and easy.

The OBM is fine, but it does not rotate. I was thinking maybe I could make a second grinder fixed in the horizontal position. Making a grinder that rotates, using the spare motor and VFD I have, would be difficult because the motor is not a face-mount motor.

If I had one horizontal grinder and one vertical grinder, would I ever miss being able to orient the belt at some position between horizontal and vertical?

Seems to me it would be convenient to have different belts mounted at the same time, so two grinders would be better than one.

I guess this wasn't an exciting question.

It turns out a big Harbor Freight chest doesn't have enough room on top for two big grinders. There are ways to do it, but not good ways.

I had considered the same thing but having limited shop space, I decided I’d be better off with a 2x72 that tilts for a smaller footprint than two dedicated units. But that’s just me.

I'm thinking I may make a Jer Schmidt two-way grinder and get rid of the OBM.

Of course, the problem with this plan is that I will probably end up keeping both.

Sounds like a plan!👍
I am looking at a second OBM right now. You can never have too many.

Seedy Lot - You can run a 1" belt on a 2X72 grinder. You can also change the 2" contact wheel for a 1" wheel. I have run 1/2" wide belts on my 2X72.
