Ok I'm spending lots of time here in front of this friggen computer trying to finish projects but luckily most of my projects are based on bushcraft, anyway I've got the distraction of WSS running in the background ... thanks everyone.

I'm honing my ultralight setup and its time to hone my eating implements. The bowl is the focus. I'm looking at just using one bowl to use as frypan/billy/plate ... and the focus is the titanium ones, probably about 7 inches accross and about 2 1/2 inches deep. What do ya think?

Actually, I kind of like this one. Looks like it would last through WWIII. What is it? How much does it weigh?
 
Iboschi - Its on old australian army issue about 1940 and weighs approx 80g but dont have scales here at the moment. Its sort of not bad, I pack all my cooking, eating and fuel (alcohol and stove) in it as well as fire lighting and a few extras.
 
oddly enough Bushman5 had a great idea to use a miners pan...its bowl shaped with a flat bottom....you could easly pop in some wire to make a billy....i cant find the post. mebbe bushman5 will chime in!
 
Titanium is super lightweight. Important for mountain climbers when weight really matters for ascents. I am usually a stainless steel kinda guy, I don't like coatings since with campfire flare-ups, you can't control it the way you would a stove.

I recently purchased one of these titaniums... It fits in the hand. Every piece slips into the other. The big pot holds about 650 ml... The handles are steel as well, with rubber coatings, so if the coatings melt, you still have the handles...

The thing about these is, they cost about $50.00. They're worth the money IMO (so far), but weigh so little, it doesn't seem fair for the price!

I have a separate lightweight stainless plate I carry with, or not at all which also acts as my frying pan, which weighs less than most fryers...

I guess my problem with my old one is that its a tank with sharp edges and has a habbit of putting holes in my pack. Its a classic but I recon I can go lighter with a folded edge.
I am trying to avoid the cup type as its hard to fry eggs etc.
 
Try a stainless or titanium plate as frying/dinner plate backup. I love 'em, weigh almost nothing, less than frying pans, no sharp edges, and if you absolutely need a frisbee, well....:D
 
PaleoJoe - I'm trying to stick to the one utensil and that has to be able to boil rice, pasta, freeze dried meals, small stew and maybe a lid that could double as a plate.
 
Well..... I am not too big on ultralight cookware, aluminum or Ti, which, BTW I can't tell a lick of difference in except for price. It seems to get too beat up and I don't like scrubbing the finish off if I screw up and let something stick, which is super easy to do with thin pans.

So what do I like? My favorite so far is the MSR stowaway pots, made of good quality stainless with a nice and tight fitting lid, with a folding handle that locks the lid in place. Yeah, it weighs a bit more but I have been using one for years and it is just like the day I bought it except for blackening on the outside. Chris
