One-Brand Buying...Naive?

Let's say I am intrigued by Benchmade's product line...would it be naive to confine myself to one brand, if say, I am a soft-core knife guy and don't need specialized tools?

I am thinking:
Work & Church: BM 770
Weekends: BM 710 or AFCK
Kitchen: Kitchen knife set :) (oh heck why not)
EDC, depending on legal research findings: Nimravus or tether knife
Practice: 710 trainer

I would like some consistency among my knives, and having all BM stuff would make me feel very 'complete'. Or am I just being naive?

Go for it! I've always liked BM knives they are always well made and well Serviced by BM. The AXIS lock seals the deal for me there is no equal! I've had some other good knives but the BMs are just better.

Skunkabilly:
Go with what turns you on! I like any knife that is legal in my state & not too common. Lately, I've purchased some custom knives which have a little bit of 'me' in their design. Any knife that is well made and has proven itself would lead me to purchase another of that brand, manufacturer or custom craftsman. Good luck with your endeavor!

i say try different brands of knives.i can't tie myself down to one brand when their are so many out their that i like

I say go with whatever makes you happy...BUT...if you go through life never having tried another brand, you may be missing out on something.

Hey Skunk....

BM is a Great brand..I have many of their knives,,,But...

Vanilla is fine,, but once and awhile Strawberry hits the spot,,or even Maple Walnut breaks the routine....

I think you are missing out on alot of Great knives...

Wait until the custom bug hits you,,you'll OD...

Its a fun(addiction) hobby.

As Homer simpson once said "Expand Your Mind,,Square"

Eric...

Sh!t, some guys get stuck on one specific model (never mind one brand!) buying 10+ examples of it!!!

I used to think that people were "missing out" by sticking to one brand but my opion has changed since discovering a few brands (and a few models) that I REALLY like...still, I do not think you should go this route until you have had the chance to explore other options...in other words, it's one thing to stick to BM only without trying other makes while it's another to try everything else and then decide that BM is the best for you

Hey, it's your money; buy what you will appreciate the most. :) (At least you chose Benchmade as your one brand.)

I would say at least try one or two of the other brands just so you know what you are or aren't missing.

Not too long ago I only liked BM and Emerson and refused to acknowledge or buy other brands. I've now re-discovered Spyderco though and also would like to expand the variety of SOG in my collection.

BM and EKI are still my two faves as far as design and style but my other knives serve their purpose just as well.

I do not find it naive to stick to one brand of knives at all. For many years the only knife I would buy was a Buck. After awhile that changed and I have owned knives from over a dozen companies over the last 15 years.

Go with whatever makes you happy. If you want to stick with one company, do so. If you want to check out the offerings of a multitude of manufacturers, that is cool too.

Benchmade makes some damn good knives, and if you buy a bunch of BM's, you're assured to have some good knives. Most of my knives are BM's. But other companies make good knives too, and there's no reason not to buy and carry those as well. I'll never tell you not to buy a Benchmade, but it couldn't hurt to buy other brands also.

Knife11, not only do I think you are wrong about being one branded(only five of my last five knife purchases were Spyderco).

I can't stand people that use their favorite manufactures logo as their avatar, I think it is cheap, unimaginative, and downright tacky.:D :D uh, yeah, no really.

BTW, I am open to other manufactures products, I'm just too much of a chicken to look at others too hard, because I'm afraid I will hock the house   when I get my hands on cool new stuff.

LOL ROM831, my roommate has a Spyderco and teases that his spider can eat my butterfly :)

I have to admit, that when I open myself up to other brands, I'll be living in the street.

Hmmm, Benchmade, very very expensive where I live, but not a bad life partner. You must just realise that I have collected really nice SOGs, Spydercos, Gerbers, Cold Steels and a whole stack of economically priced CRKTs, so I definitely would not say tie yourself to one brand. There's just too much good stuff out there! If you buy knives that are a little cheaper you can also buy more knives :) unless you have an unlimited budget.

well, if i you said another brand then i probably would have said no don't stick with one brand but since you mentioned benchmade then i'm differently going to say yes! IMO Benchmade is the best production company within their own price group and even better then some more expensive knives.

I see benchmade as pretty much a 120 dollar street price company (as you can get most of their good stuff, 940x, afck, 710 etc for around 120) and in that price grouping in think benchmade is the best

Skunkabilly: try the Spydie and you know why we like it so much.
Spydie convert here.
As long as you're buying the knives that make you happy, I think it's fine.
But if all you buy is only from one manufacturer, then you'll definately miss out.
