Well, thanks to everyone on this forum I obtained enough info and confidence to go ahead and rig up my own one brick forge with the Bernzomatic JTH7 torch and a buffer using a 3/4 HP grinder for the motor as it was only $50 brand new. No capacitor in the motor so I have to "hand spin" it to get it going when the bearings are cold. So far, everything works great. I can't believe how well those fire bricks work!

So thanks to everyone. Pics of the first knife will come once it's actually done.

My wife is getting induced to have our first baby this Monday so I will be pretty busy after that for a while. It's a girl so pics of my new daughter will come later as well.

I don't have the net at home yet so I think i"m going to go crazy without being able to read this forum every day! :(

This is my first picture posting attempt as well so I hope it works. Excuse the quality, I took them with my phone...

Sweet, man!

Does the grinder bog down at all if you really lean in to it?

I'm going to make a '2 brick forge 'as soon as I get off my tuckus. Good to see it works out for ya!

To be honest, I haven't really put the buffer to the test. I tried it quicly on a couple scraps. I pushed fairly hard and it seems to be fine. I tend to not push very hard when buffing anyways. I find it's better to go soft and slowly - sh*t happens too fast when pushing or rushing :)

Thanks for the comments!
