I just "joined" up to see if I could get an idea of what I should be looking for to supplement my new CCW.

I see you are new. Do you know what a Sebenza is?

Welcome to the forums. To supplement your CCW and only one knife? It may depend on your local and state laws. But it sounds like you are leaning towards a "business" piece though. Better make it a fixed blade for sure!

California's concealed carry laws and situation are rather unsettled right now. You should start by checking your license to see if it applies to knives as well as guns. In California, this will vary from county to county.

The most important thing you can get to supplement your new license is some good knife/counter-knife training. Surprisingly, a knife is a very dangerous and rather ineffective weapon unless you use it properly.

After that, I like my AFCK. It's a great design, very well-build, and, while it is sold and intended as a camping knife, in a pinch you could probably use it combatively.

Greetings. Welcome to our wonderful world! Your quest may be dependent on a few things:

1. legality (though it's never really to some)
2. price range (may determine custom, semi-custom, or production model purchase)
3. use (utilitarian, self-defense or both)
4. size (hand in hand with legality)
5. comfort and ergonomics (weight and feel)
6. construction (locking style, structural makeup and integrity)
7. blade style (shape, serration options)

That being said, I feel the Benchmade 710 Axis lock with the plain edged blade would be the perfect knife for you

Seriously, there are so many options, styles, sizes, weights, etc., it might be worthwhile to visit a local cutlery store and try a bunch on for size. Then order the knife online and save paying the retail price.

Depends a lot on your state's laws.

If you're in one of the "unlimited cutlery with your CCW states such as AZ, FL and a couple of others, well hell, the sky's the limit

.

If you're in a highly knife-restrictive-despite-gun-carry-permit state (Washington State and MANY others), you're probably best off with a 4" folder.

California's CCW laws are screwed up but it's still possible to get one. See also my site: http://www.ninehundred.com/~equalccw

Calif's KNIFE carry laws are fairly lax, better than many pro-CCW states. There's no limit on concealed folder length (so long as they're not autos or balisongs) and you can open-carry fixed-blades. The REKAT Sifu was designed mainly for the Calif market, it's a 5.45" blade quality folder. COOL piece, my daily work-compatible carry.
