While being in the area, I thought of paying a visit to Yangdu. So I called her up and asked if I could drop by.
Yangdu accepted gladly and after a short conversation I asked if I could use one of the knives to shave myself.
Well, here I am at the porch of Yangdu’s home during and after my shave! Not even a nick!

The moral of the story? The more you use a khukri, the more you discover new uses for it!

I would like to thank Yangdu for the hospitality she offered to both my wife and me, as well as, for the very interesting conversation we have had.

Cool!

except, wait....it's probably quite HOT in Reno right about now...:foot:

Glad you're having a good time!

After seeing the mad glee in your eyes, I think maybe 'crazy George' might fit better. What a shaving commerical this would make.

Aw shucks, you shaved your face. That's too easy. Now if you used the khukuri to shave your ... uh ... forget it.

;)

Or perhaps "curious George." I have never had a doubt that a straight razor could slit my throat if handled improperly while shaving. That khuk looks like it might have a little more potential. More like decapitation. But I'm not curious to find out. I'll take it on faith. Glad you didn't have a mishap. :D

George, what's your forum name? I can't think of what it is at the moment.

I'm sure you and your wife made Yangdu's day with your company.

My question exactly! (-: Forget the real names, I only know you guys by your forum handles. My wife cracks up when I mention some of your names. I think I'll start making some up and see if she even notices:

"Yeah, honey, old "Sharkstabber" was talking to "Khuk Man On The Moon", and he said if "Eats His Liver Raw" didn't get back to him right now he was going to sic "Nasty" on him!"

Her reply would probably be, "Oh, c'mon, quit BS'ing me, no one would be called Nasty!" ;) :D

Norm

P.S. Wait a second, I do know one George; Clearblue is that you?

I'm guessing that's one of the Sargeant's blades you have there? I don't know. Maybe Ram? Looks like either a samsher or one of Rams new villager models we've been seeing. Nice knife.

George, from Greece right? I remember the first knife you snagged about a year ago, it was some kind of beautiful little BGRS wasn't it, from Bura? With grey horn handle, standard bolster and a chiruwa handle, and in a nice size. I am a BGRS freak and wanted that thing so bad! Never seen one like it before or since. It was also at a bargain price. Broke or not if you ever want to part with it please let me know. :D

Glad you made it to the US and got to meet Yangdu.

To say that I am impressed with your memory would be a gross understatement  !!! You remember all this detail after all this time and thousands of posts in between... this is really amazing. As a matter of fact it has been the warm welcome that has made me stay here and become a loyal Himalayan Imports collector.

Kind regards,
George :)

from the credit where credit is due, department, I'll second that. Norm has become the adhoc historian of HI.

Thanks George, but make no mistake I have forgotten many in between, but that one was very memorable. Traditional bolsters and chiruwa handles on Bura's signature model are seldom seen, and combined with a material that he almost never uses, grey horn, and that size that fell between the 15" and 17.25/17.5" models he usually makes, and that was a truly unique one of a kind knife. I also recall it because there were a couple of nice 20" WWII's that came out that same week that have not been seen since.

At the time I figured it was a single purchase for you and we would never hear from you again, but I am very glad to see that was not the case.

Fact is that I have made more than one purchases from Yangdu and I have been so happy with every single one of them. This was one of the reasons that I wanted to meet with Yangdu.
