Hey guys,

So, I've been looking around lately and I would like to get some type of search light. Right now Im using a Fenix TK10, and it works wonderfully, but I would like to have something with a little more kick for work on the river at night, in the odd times we do go out.

Now, I have a few in mind.

The M1X from Jetbeam, the M30 triton from Olight and the TK40 from Fenix. From what I've gathered, the M1x has the most throw, but is the largest, the M30 is smaller, but has less throw and the Fenix TK40 is somewhere in the middle with the "bounus" as some might call it of having aa's for use.

Now, im not really sure what I should be going for, I would certainly like something compact, and not overly huge, just something brighter than the TK10. I have been leaning towards the M30, but there is something about the M1X that I just like, maybe the better throw.

Is there someone that can comment on any of these lights, which one they prefer, build quality over all use of them. Pics maybe?:D

Anyways, thanks guys, have a good one.

Fonley,

I have the M30 and the throw is amazing, especially for the relative small size of this light. The one reservation I would have in recommending it is that the flared but cap makes finding an appropriate holster a bit of a chore.

I really like the second button for accessing the various modes and for instant strobe. Also, the supplied diffuser really does a great job.

I cannot say enough good things about the M1X. While it is less lumens (450 true OTF lumens) than the TK40 , the build quality, runtime, user interface are top notch. Pair it with two of AW's 18650's li-ions, and you have a great package.

i gotmine from John at J2ledflashlights, a local canadian company. It came with the extender to run 2 x 18650 li-ions (John has both the batts/charger and M1X as a package)

I have the M30 and I love it. Great light with nicely spaced levels.

I thought about buying the TK40 for the "bonus" of using AA bateries, but it takes a LOT of AAs. Just keeping a couple sets of spares on hand would take a lot of space/weight. It's easier to keep a couple sets of 18650s or CR123s.

I don't have a lot of experience with any of those lights, but I've heard great things about the TH40. If you have a little more to spend, consider some Surefire incandescents. They really put a lot of light out and there are some decent rechargeable options available.

I got to handle the TK40 in a recent passaround. That puppy is bright! I like the different levels that it has . Somebody over at CPF did a destruction test on it and it came through with flying colors. One thing that impressed me with it is the batteries. I have plenty of AA Eneloops around the house so the rechargeable option is good for me.
