A while back I decided that I wanted to make a fighter with a solid "W" pattern pommel. Since that would have added unwanted weight to the handle, I hollowed the pommel and added a recessed washer to the front of it for strength. As the construction of the handle was a little different from the norm, I am showing the knife still incomplete so as to give you an idea of how it came together.

I plan on adding a bit of an antique finish to the giraffe bone handle as well as a final polish to the rest of the components. [The clam shell guard is blued WI. The front spacer is WI as well but simply etched for contrast. The blade steel is an accordian cut mosaic from 1084 & 15N20.]

Let me know what you think.

Gary,

That's an absolutely wild and beautiful damascus. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in Little Rock.

I like it Gary it looks like it was fun to make and that bold damascus looks great.

I agree, really cool damascus and very nice knife. I look forward to seeing it as well in LR.

Thanks, guys. I got the idea of starting with varied thicknesses of layers for a "W" pattern from Ray Kirk and have made several different variations of it this year. It gives it a different look doesn't it. Glad that you liked it.

There is also a fun Gala on the night of the 15th, before the show officially opens.

It's a wonderful show. Lots of folks like me fly in from more than 1000 miles away. So with you being what, 70 or 80 miles away, it is definitely worth the trip. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Only six weeks away now, and I am really looking forward to it.

Nice Gary! See ya at the show.

Little Rock has been a Very Good show! For me it's 2nd only to the Blade Show. :)

Its an enjoyable Show and gets some real foot traffic too. I like it better than Blade as its not so overwelming with people but as a maker and collector we can see every knife there and even handle them at the Gala on Friday night. The knife judging is done by by all the makers so we naturally get to see them all and vote.

It's hard to find more talent in one room then what you will find there. I'm always amazed & awed at the quality that I see there on the tables. :)When you are like me and working your table by yourself it sure makes it hard to stay at the table while there is so much quality to look at all around you.

Friday night is a real pleasure as well. Trying to pick a winner from the quality that will be there in the various knife competitions is obviously very difficult.

Just being around the best in the world this way is the best way that I know of to inspire creating a better knife. Threads like this make me want to get back in the shop.

See you soon.

Gary
