This one was requested by my daughter. It is of 1/8" AEB-L 60rc with a 3" blade and Antique Ivory Micarta, copper liners and pins.

It is a sweet little blade that she will carry. She is going to make a chain mail lanyard for it.

This antique ivory micarta can be a bear to grind and will actually throw sparks. It has to be ground with 36 grit to remove the bulk and slow and with the copper it was a challenge and keeping the heat down is key.

It does have a the look I wanted so I am happy with it.

Thanks for looking

Great looking knife!

The paper micarta will age and get better as she ages.

An happy daughter with a nice sharp knife over there :)
Why is working with that micarta difficult? Also why heat is a concern? I ask because i didn't use yet that material.

That Copper is like a heat sink and if one is too impatient you can discolor around all the copper and damage the epoxy bond also! Gorgeous knife!!!

This Antique White Micarta is very tenacious to grind and it gums up the belts and will burn if done to quickly.

Too late to change anything now.....but....copper pins and liners lend themselves better to dark handle materials....in the future, you may want to think about pink gold, once the price comes down again.

If you try to use Flitz or similar to clean up the pins/liners...it will stain the ivory Micarta permanently with a blackish, powdery appearance....so in this case....MAYBE light sanding with 1,500 grit sandpaper may work.

Nice piece and beautiful thought for your daughter.

Good luck and..

Thanks Steven,

Copper for some reason is all the rage with the younger crowd, they actually want it to tarnish and get a patina.

When the time comes and she wants it shiny and new I will hit it with some 1500 polishing sheets, they work pretty good.

Much appreciated :)

Thank for the info.
When using white materials, ie ivory and bone i find it useful a thorough wash with wd40 or similar, to get rid of the dirt from hand sanding. Even there any heat is a no-no :)

WD40 works great. I actually did use Flitz on it and then followed with WD40 and it cleaned right up. The Flitz did not give the micarta the finish I wanted so I went to the 1500 polishing sheets and it finished up nicely.

Thanks everybody

Your comments and suggestions much appreciated
