Greetings all,

A while back I had purchased a pair of small utility knives from Dave Kelly. I mentioned to Dave that the smaller of the two - a sweet little ironwood handled piece with a killer hamon - would make a perfect desk knife.

The knife came with a typically excellent sheath by Dave as shown below:

I had no sooner got the words out of my mouth than Dave was saying I should have told him earlier and he would have crafted a little desk stand for the piece in addition to the sheath.

Those words were no sooner out of his mouth than I was saying "Well, even though you no longer have the knife on hand, could you still do the stand?"

The answer revealed below:

That would be A-firmative. :)

Ironwood every bit as presentation grade as I have seen on any knife forms the base and arm, with an African blackwood base. The wood is highly polished with a carnauba wax finish. A small, tooled, sheath covers the blade while it is on the stand.

Dave made a mock up wooden knife to ensure a good fit and real one does indeed fit real good. (Crappy cell phone pic - didn't have my camera at the office).

Thanks again Dave - always a pleasure.

What a great little knife/sheath package.
That ironwood is beautiful and don't think the sheath could match the knife any better.

Niiiiiice. A handmade that you will use more often than any other. Envelopes ALWAYS require a smart cut. ;)

Me likes.

Roger you are killing me as you know I also have one of these and that desk sheath is killer.

Dave is such a nice guy and his work has a real rich look about it that I can't explain, Dave is a true craftsman and artist with steel and leather.

Congrats great stuff

What a neat desk stand. Perfect for that knife. Super ironwood takes this over the top. Just a great usable package!

I have liked everything i've seen lately from Dave Kelly and this is another illustration of his skills. That wood stand is sweet!

Great package Roger and well done Dave.

That hamon makes me want to cry... WOW! I feel so inadequate...

Gorgeous stuff, man.

A real nice package Roger. Do not think I have ever seen a more attractive stand for a knife.
Congrats to you and Dave,
Jim

BTW: Any good tips on money laundering? ;)

On another forum it was suggested that the hamon looked like "ghost riders" - look again and tell me you don't see exactly that.

Roger

I didn't notice that before but I sure do now. That's a unique stand and a wonderful knife. Congratulations on a fine piece.

Beautiful set, Roger, just as one would expect coming from Dave. By the way, for those of you who do not know.....Dave is a Master Wood Worker/Crafter, that being what he did before the knife and leather thing. Wood work IS his "A" game and that puts knives and leather down to B and C and you know what the knives and leather look like so can you even imagine what he can do with wood????
