One gets the axe. Please help me decide.

I have to recupe some cash, and eliminate some redundancy. I'm selling a few busses to pay for my son's preschool... bla bla bla, you all know the sob story. I'm stuck between two knives though. One of them has to join the others (which will remain nameless so this isn't construed as a for sale thread) and move on. First let me tell you what I have, to help with the decision.

1. NMFBMLE - Grail knife, used all the time. Only chopper I have
2. Stripped User Skinny ASH - Only Big "little knife" I have
3. HG-55 LE - Mint condition (but will be used if kept)
4. SAR3 SE - Only EDC sized busse
5. SR Vex - Mucho Kitchen use
6. Stripped User SR RMD - Most practical, perfect sized knife I own.

Ok, the decision is between the HG-55 and the Skinny ASH. I was leaning towards keeping the HG, as its a beautiful LE satin knife. Very practical size. I asked my brother who knows nothing of Busse, and when he saw the Skinny, his response was "Whoa!" He considered the others I intended to keep and said the Skinny, along with its fire steel is the only "survival knife" I had. He said if he was "going out and didn't know when he'd be coming back" he'd want the Skinny with him. He thought the HG too closely matched the RMD and that nothing compared to the Skinny... which was my very first Busse.

So needless to say, I'm torn. Sure, the HG will fetch more money, but thats not my only concern.

Wow! Ok, Ok... quite an overwhelming response. It almost makes it sound like a stupid question. Honestly though, I really was stuck. The HG was staying as of an hour ago.

Sell the HG55.

I went through a similar cull and decided to sell my HG55.

I currently have my Skinny ASH for sale, but that is just bc I prefer my SarSquatch...

Now you guys are making me think I should just hold on to my Skinny.... :confused::confused::confused:

I had one for a long while and just never found a use for it. Keep the Skinny (and all the others).

It seems like the popular classics are popular for a reason. There's a lot of love for the ASHs and NMFBMs and Heavy Steel Hearts. I guess it says a lot about certain models.
 
depends how quickly you need the money and how much of a hit you are willing to take.

there is less of a market for the hg55 than the ash, but there isn't really a shortage of ash's.

i say sell the ash, then pick up another when funds permit.

I remember when I first got the Busse bug and I poured through the "if you could only carry one" threads...

Skinny ASH, Heavy Heart and Mistresses always rule them.

Its a really tough call when trying to figure out what to sell - I know I have too many, but just can't seem to get rid of the 6+ inch blades - was mulling over my TB, Skinny, NMSFNO and Sarsquatch - they are all just awesome in their own way (I just put my skinny on hold :D)

I've found that its the smaller Busses that always get the chopping block for me - I let go of my AD, GW and now my SAR3 is up... My Sus Scrofa is the only smaller blade I've held onto and thats just bc its such a unique blade shape....

I guess its because there are a lot of other makers that really do the sub 5" really really well (my RC3mil is easily my most used knife by far), but Busse reigns supreme in the med to large range...

Regardless I still think your RMD can easily take the place of the HG55 - the RMD is the ultimate smallish medium blade, IMHO.

I noticed the same thing, reading through those same threads in the begining. My first bussekin was an M6. When I looked around for a similar knife of the busse variety, it was almost unanimously the Skinny ASH that came up.

I dont have a problem hanging on to any one particular size, as I get a lot of use out of even my SAR3. What always makes me sell a knife is redundancy. As much of a knife lover and Busse lover as I am, the cost of these knives tends to make me bitter when I think of the money tied up in them. The second I realize I have two of something similar, guilt kicks in. Obviously its triggered by a lack of funds too... :D

Good for you for putting the skinny sale on hold. Ironically before the decision to sell anything, I had been checking out the sarsquatch. Its funny how your eye for these knives changes weekly.
