Hello all,

I would like to know which are the best one-handed opening folders. I guess by best I mean smooth and fast opening. I want to spend under $100 only and I really like folders with the thumbstud.

I just received a Benchmade 335 gents knife and it is a great knife for the size. However, I also want something a bit larger for whenever more heavy duty cutting is required.

Thanks.

If it's gotta be under $100.00, look at Benchmade's Griptilian model 551 or 551S. It just doesn't get any better for that kind of money ... Axis lock, thumbstud opening, good heavy pocket clip, and a near indestructible Noryl GTX handle over dual stainless liners.

I love all types of knives, but I have to agree with Mike here on the 551 Griptilian, if you like studs and under $100. I have both opening hole and thumbstud versions and they are true workhorse knives...not flashy or "pretty," but IMO the most solidly built folders for the $$.

I gotta go with everyone else on the Griptilian...when you talk about smooth opening for sub-$100, then nothing beats an axis lock. And just to add something a little different, the BM720's are around $100 and are just as smooth though a bit heavier. You can probably find those for under a hundred in the knife exchange or one of the auction sites (bought mine for $75).

Emerson Mini Commander with the "Wave". Good luck finding something that will open quicker out of your pocket.

The Benchmade AFCK axis lock is another quick/smooth handler, but has an oval hole opener.

Either can be had for ~$100, if you shop around...

Al Mar SERE 2000 can be had right around 100. Smoothest action I have ever worked and fit/finish up there with customs. You want a solid, beefy folder this is it.
