While I was at Blade I picked up a couple of other things besides knives...
Among them were a few of TOPS' new signal mirrors.

These aren't metal they are plastic and they are very light-weight. They come with a protective film covering that both reduces reflectivity and protects the mirror's surface until you are ready to use it. They are very highly reflective. You can see the camera focused past my hand and on the leaves and branches reflected in the mirror.

I learned in the process of taking these pics that one can accurately signal with an injured hand if needs be :D

Cool, never thought about dog tag size, I sell credit cad size stainless ones to the locals in Australia and they work well.

I think they are cool. Can be worn around the neck and hardly noticed, and they reflect very brightly.

I believe that signal mirrors are the hands down best signalling device when it comes to long distances and include them in every kit. When it comes to signal mirrors, the maxim of the bigger the better is a solid truth. The best mirrors I've used are the handmade laminated glass Air Force signal mirrors. They're amazing, but they're also heavy and bulky. Great for car, boat, aviation, etc. kits, but not something I want to carry with me while out backpacking.

These TOPS signal mirrors are small but they have great merit for mini kits. They would work great for Altoids Kits, saving space over the Adventure Medical Kits Rescue Signal Mirror, allowing you to add something else to an already too small kit. They already have a lanyard hole in them so they would work really well on a survival necklace or baldric. They would also make a good EDC or back up mirror. If you made a pouch for one out of nylon, leather or kydex (I thought of it first so in exchange for intellectual rights I'll be happy to take a pouch or two as payment, preferably kydex), this would further protect it and make it possible to put it on a keychain (many of us carry survival gear on our keychains, but I have yet to find a decent signal mirror for this, plus it would protect it from all of your keys, PicoPen or Titanium Inka Pens, County Comm Widgy Bars, pill vials full of magnesium shavings or pjcb, BSA Hot Sparks, Peanut Lighters, mini compasses, Photon Lights, kubatons, tick tweezers, keychain knives, P-38 can openers, survival USB drives, carabiners, and Peter Atwood titanium whistles . . . not that I'm admitting to having any or all of this or my fear of falling into water with my keys in my pocket!).

Thanks for the heads up Mistwalker. I'll have to get a couple to try out.

I have small signal mirrors everywhere around the house. For how small the things can get, and how light they are, they should definitely be an essential piece of gear to take with you wherever you go.

Yep, never had to use one to signal for help, but I've used them a dozen times to get debris out of my eyes. Nice to know I have them if I do have to signal for help though.

I agree, signal mirrors are great to have around, and these are so lite that I thought some people might like the idea as much as I do.

I agree with your ideas very much, and no problem on the heads up, thank you for the laugh
