One handed Trekker blade??

I was looking at the SAK One handed Trekker. It seem like the main blade has little serrations? For those who one one I have a couple questions: How good is that blade? Does it hold an edge? How would one sharpen it when it gets dull?

There were evidently a lot of gripes about that serrated blade, so the OHT is now available in a serrated or plain blade.

As good as any SAK blade. All SAK blades are a decent but not exceptional stainless steel.

How would one sharpen it when it gets dull?
You need something like a Spyderco Sharpmaker or something like one of these DTM shapening rods go do the serrations:

Personally, I would just recomend tracking down one of the PE versions. ;)
 
The easy way to sharpen small serrations like that is how I do it on my Vaquero Grande. Just run down the back side as if you were sharpening a chisel grind, and forget about sharpening the serrated side. It works pretty well.

Another easy way would be to sharpen it on the Sharpmaker normally, ignoring the serrations. This will also give you a sharp edge, but the serrations tips will become gradually rounder -- and still slice nicely.

I've also heard of people just sharpening as you would a plain edge on a coarse stone until the serrations go away. Of course, it would be much easier to just get a plain edged one to begin with. If you like the serrations though, I agree with the recommendations above.
 
I promptly sent mine to Richardj here on the forums and he removed the serrations and put a hair popping edge. Awesome knife and tool.

I have both, they both cut very well.m As the serrated edge gets dull, I may just buff them off.
 
I also had mine modded to make it a plain edge. I bought mine before they offered the PE. I did not like the blade in it's original configuration.

I got mine from Two Wolves and it has a plain blade. I just made sure to specify.
 
I got mine in late 2001, and did not care for the serrations. After cutting some WD-1 commo wire in Kandahar, the edge was kind of rippeled so I sharpened the serrations off with an EZE-LAP diamond hone, and have been carrying the knife daily ever since. John

Your article on the OHT is what made me buy a couple for myself and for a friend. I have the newer plain edge ones but they seem to lack a sharp point. I have seen 3 like this already, maybe it was a bad batch!

I was convinced in the general forum to try them out and I am glad I did, the serrations are very sharp and will not need sharpening for a long time. The sharpest kitchen knife we have is a big bread knife with similar serrations, 4 years old and cuts like the day it was bought, for 15 bucks. Plus I love how they are towards the front where they should all be.
