Me and my Waki went to visit Mr. Brown today:)

The Waki lost a bit of weight off the ass-end and picked up some new pants!

David Brown's Exposed Spine sheaths are perfect if you have a larger blade:D

His blade mod skills are pretty good too!

Thanks again Dave!

The overall length is at 23 inches now and the balance is awesome. After it was modified the butt was missing some coating so i sprayed it with some charcoal gray Rustoleum and the color match is pretty good:)

it feels like a totally different blade. It is much quicker and the point of balance is a couple inches forward of the handle. If it was chopped after the fourth tube fastener that would bring the balance back an inch or so (i am guessing) but then the handle would be too long. between the third and fourth is the best place to cut IMO.

i am pretty sure my warranty is shot, but it was worth it:D

Very Nice!
The shorter handle looks much more practical than the 10" handle which comes with it.

I have access to a chopsaw, grinder & belt sander.
Do you have any words of wisdom for those of us who wish to do the same modification on our own?

Dave would be the better guy to ask, i just watched. It did seem that the steel is hard to cut.

You could do it with a grinder and belt sander i would imagine.

Remember though, this will most likely void Eric's warranty. But judging by the vids and SRKW overall quality i dont think these blades are gonna fail:thumbup:

That's a great looking mod, but I think I would want it a little longer. I like the option of being able to hold it two-handed. If I didn't care for that, I might want it that short.

AFAIK, the warranty on the blade will be unaffected by handle mods.

I think somebody else did this right after the Wakis shipped, no?

Thats cool! i wonder how the balance compares... now we need someone to chop one after the second tube..lol

I have to agree with this statement and like the idea of making it into a hand-and-a-half sword instead of just one-handed.

As for the quickness I would have guessed it to be less quick in hand overall as the balance was more neutral with the full tang. It seems like the shortened handle will likely make it a stronger, faster swing on a stroke but take more time to change direction.

cutting After the fourth tube would be the way to go for you then.

I don't have the weight but for me it is easier to change directions one handed than it was before.

with the extra length i found it awkward. i do a little escrima so i dont use it as a waki or katana would be used.

it is not ideal for escrima (it is a bit too straight, and no "hook" pommel) but it is better than it was:)

the extra handle would hang up, particularly in close.

Thank you for posting the pics.

That did turn out really nice, if I do say so myself. :D

The handle warranty may be in question, but I am pretty sure your blade is still good to go. :)

I think it works perfect for what he wanted it to do.

Man that stuff was hard to cut.

I have a few pics i will put up later. :)

Cool, please do post them. How long did it take to do this, ie. how much work was it?

It took a couple hours for the modification.

And a hour or so for the sheath, I had one already formed I just had to finish it.

My Bi-metal band-saw blade would not cut it !!!, I had to use a angle grinder with a cut off wheel to get through it, stopping every so often as to not get it too hot.

Here are some pics :)
