Equals Crawdads!

I took my friends 9yo son to catch a replacement for his deceased pet Crayfish at a muddy little pond on my local disc golf course.
We cut some twine off a ball of garden twine in the yard with my RR Yellow Cokebottle, whittled a stick to a proper length and tied it all together with the bacon on the end. We had our first one within seconds and over a dozen in a few minutes. We only needed two so we tossed the rest back.
It was fun to teach a little kid some old school skills that I picked up at his age.
He was sceptical at first and blown away when we pulled two up at one time!!

Edit, String in the title not sting.....

Now that is a lot of fun! I taught my boys how to catch crayfish/crawdads in a creek by our house when they were about that age. There is a pool that a short waterfall empties into, and lots of crayfish hang out around the edge of the pool underneath the rocks.
I loved watching them catch them, though we always put them back. I wonder if they'd take a walk over with me this weekend and see if they remember...

My friend's kid was all the "excuse" I needed. I had seen them in the pond every time I played the course and thought I needed to catch a few just for kicks.
Once I had a kid to show it was on!

Great story Billy, bacon sounds like a good bait. We used to tie pieces of hotdog to the end of our line but never had a two for one. I will keep the bacon in mind if I ever get a chance to fish for some crawdads again. I am sure the kid had just as much fun as you did. Thanks for sharing.

I remember my older brother showing me how to catch crayfish at the nearby creek. I also remember my mother yelling at him for taking me across the highway. I was maybe only 7 yrs old and he was about 14.

Leave it in the sun for a good 20 min it works like a charm. I only go crayfishing when I'm going for sturgeon.

Last time I saw a guy doing that when I was fishing he caught a 5-6 inch crawdad. No lie. Looked like a small lobster. I used to catch them that way and by hand, right on the hook, trout two minutes later. :)
