One Knife for $500 and under.

At that price range, a one-of-a-kind custom for sure. Whatever caught my eye first.

A guy on ebay has been selling gen 3 xm-18s over the last couple of weeks and they have been going for $650 to $750 . If you are patient you could watch the benchmade and spyderco listings on ebay or the exchange here and pick up a highly desirable discontinued model from them ( M2 afck, carbon fiber police or civilian) something like that for well under 500. You can also always go for a large sebenza in that price range.

I'd get a Busse Sarsquatch, buy a good sheath, and keep a few dollars in change.

I wouldn't pay $500.00 dollars for any one knife.
For that much money I can get three very nice knives that I would actually use.

Some of us actually USE our $500+ knives!! That is where the enjoyment lies in owning a custom knife! (useable art is what I call it.)

I asked myself that very question a few years ago, and here's what Sean O'Hare and I designed together.

I also recently asked this question, and decided on a Gen Tac William Henry with Ironwood, and ZDP blade. And, yes, I will use it. It's in my pocket right now.

I'm finally to the point that I can survive without buying a new knife every month, and have started saving up. It took almost exactly one year to save up $500, and I was happy to spend it. (Luckily I didn't have to use it all, as I also got a small monetary bonus at work!)

I'm ahead for this year, and next on my list is a Chris Reeve Mnandi, with Mammoth, if I can find one. ($650 ? )

You also can't go wrong with a Sebenza in a limited form.

My XM-18 gets used, and occasionally abused. I carry it most Saturdays and whenever I get out of town. Yes it is an expensive knife, but I would trust it with my life, so I carry it.
