ONE knife? TL-29

I don't know, but it seems like I lost my desire to collect knives.:eek:

I switched to carrying my Ulster TL-29 that is heavily patinaed, and don't feel the urge to switch.:confused:

I've noticed, that I started carrying only one knife at a time, and that the periods between switching from one EDC to another became longer but now, I don't switch at all. I already gifted away part of my collection, because I just didn't use them.

Maybe I should find myself a minty carbon TL-29 and carry it exclusively, let it form a natural patina and be done with it...
Or should I start collecting TL-29s only and see where it takes me?

Did anybody here ever have the same urge? Only one knife, not as an experiment, but just one knife? Well one slipjoint and one sheath knife?

If I buy a knife to use, I use it. Rarely, once every five years or so, do I switch 'users'.

If I buy a knife to accumulate or collect, it's set aside for that specific purpose. I'll stop using knives before I stop Accumulating. :D

The TL-29 is a nice knife, for sure. Here's mine, a Camillus customized by Oupa's Outback Workshop:

Here is my TL-29. An old Camillus wood scaled version. It is the only knife not Buck I carry, but don't even tell that to anyone.
Carry it in a nice belt sheath and you can quickly grab loop and have it out in a flash. The CV blade is scary sharp. Lately has seen lots of carry for some unknown reason.

When you find a knife that does the work you need it for, it makes a lot of sense to carry it all the time. Sometimes I rotate the latest new knife, but always keep that EDC with me.

When I was in college, that electrician's knife was it for me, like an early mutltitool. :)

Klein has the same style knives. I keep trying to remind myself to get one.

I have one of those models made by Camillus, too. However, it's back in New York with most of my collection. When this tour is over and I go home, it's going to take a lot of work to get the rust off and make them serviceable again :(
 
Every time I think I am content, I find something else new, at least new to me.

But I carried my Case large stockman over the weekend, in place of my usual SAK, but with a Sebenza. It kicked a SEBENZA out of my pocket for a while!

Old timey ;)...
 
I'm not yet down to just 1 knife all the time but I'm getting pretty close to it. Seems my SAK Cadet gets about 95% of the pocket time.
 
Now thats a very nice example you have there 300Bucks.
Mine doesn't have the shield.

I have my granddad's old Camillus TL29 from his WWII army days; my grandmother used it for 35+ years for yard work. The blade's razor sharp, and the springs still have very strong snap.

When she gave it to me, I remember thinking that if I could only have one knife, that one would do it for me.

Here are two others I inherited from wife's family. Newer Camillus has a nice black scale, the Klein and Sons has cheaper looking plastic wood grain scale. They don't stand on the same level with old Cami. Shelf queens only.

I like the old TL-29 camillus as well. What type of steel did they use? Seems hard to sharpen when brand new, but once you get the profile down a bit, they can be like a razor.
