As some of you know, I moved from a small town in Florida to a "metropolitan" area of South Carolina about six months ago. Along with state taxes (SC has 'em, FL doesn't), vehicle property taxes
(SC has 'em, FL doesn't), lots of traffic and plenty of idiot drivers, I also have as a top concern my children's education. You see, the little town in Florida where we lived was the same town I grew up in, and there was one elementary school and one high school. I went to both of those, and many of the teachers and administrative staff still remembered me. That sure provided a real sense that my children would somehow be watched out for, and in many cases, that was true while I lived there.
At any rate, I have been struggling with that issue for the past six months, as I try to establish lines of communications with my son's teachers that are of the same caliber as I had in Florida. Next year, he goes into middle school and, being in a larger school district, he may come into contact with things and people that I would not have had to worry about in Florida.
What to do? Well, this morning, I got a real sense of relief when I drove past the middle school that he may be attending. For, lo and behold, out in front of the school was this sign:
Ya know, I bet I can sleep at night now. I'm sure glad to see there is still one area of the country where zero-tolerance doesn't have a strong hold. He could probably do well with an Assault Shaker, and my daughter would probably get a Battle Mistress!

Sorry for the lame joke - I really did see that sign this morning and, other than the obvious joke that a middle school would misspell the plural of "bus", I saw some humor that only knife knuts could appreciate
Have a great day!
Matthew
