Today makes it one month that I have not carried anything but a slipjoint. I got my first slipjoint for my birthday last month and took the challenge to leave my modern knives aside, and I am glad I did. Since I started carrying my slipjoints, I have not even shopped for a modern knife online, carried one, or missed having one on my person. They really are a way to take a step back and admire a beautiful knife before you cut, and take a step back from the rush of the world. I dont miss the pocket clip, the big blade, the one handed opening, the lock, anything! Plus, the thin blades just make it such a pleasure to cut with, completely different from a modern knife.

Well, thanks guys, for the new hobby! I really like slipjoints and think that is where all of my knife money is going to go for a LONG time.

Here are my two slippies:

Bravo, Spoutz! Way to go!

Our ancestors got by just fine with slip joints, no reason we can't do the same. Not that there is anything wrong with the other knives.

Good move.

I really like that Trapper with the bear on it.

I like modern knives, I'm drawn to them.... but I carry a traditional slipjoint more than any other type of knife. You'll also find that having a knife with more than one style of blade comes in handy.

I also get more satisfaction admiring the qualities of a well built slipjoint or traditional style lockback than I do with a modern folder.

Enjoy your new hobby!

Now its time to go two months. Its the first week that is toughest if you ask me. Glad to see you made it. Now go buy some different patterns and find the "one" for you. I have been taking this challenge for over five months and have gotten rid of all non-traditional folders but a select few. On the other hand my traditional collection has grown A LOT.

Those are two great knives to begin your journey with. Enjoy it. Perhaps a nice stockman should be next.

The modern knives are fine, if thats what you happen to like, but the traditional knives offer so much more, than just being able to cut something.

Congratulations on your new knives, and welcome to "The good side" :D

Well done Spoutz!!
That is exactly what I told a friend of mine...just carry one for a while, and after that time...if you ever find yourself without that knife....it just doesnt feel right....he is there now :D He now owns ( what used to be mine ) a Uncle Henry Trapper, and a Case Tony Bose Sowbelly Stockman, he is now hooked
Welcome.

That's where it really rings the bell for me. I hate how the world has turned into a place where high speed is the emphasis on how things go. I like, and relish, a chance to slow down and smell the roses. A slip joint will do that. Just a little moment to savor doing something just like our grandfathers did. Not to mention having a choice of blades to pick when you have a little cutting job to do.

Carl.

Congrats! Maybe not all your money though. ;)

edit: I read 'all my money' not 'all my knife money'. So nevermind. :)

You said it, bro! Welcome to adulthood. :)
