Here are two BAS models that came in along with the chandan handled Sirupatis. This shipment contained the very first khukuris made in shop 2 and afforded me a direct comparison between start up quality and quality now. These two knives show a few signs of village kami work but they are very decent quality. Major complaint is when they edged the knife they left the grind marks. Flat of blade is nicely polished. Scrollwork and brass inlay pretty nicely done. Mil style scabbards with double loop adjustable frog -- not bad but not perfect. Both come with full HI guarantee.

top -- Giant BAS like we had before -- 16 inches and weighs 1.5 pounds. Very nice gray horn handle. SN 7
Price $100

bottom -- Standard BAS 15 inches and weighs 1.25 lbs. Very nice gray horn handle with white streaks. SN 6
Price $90

I will pay shipping.

You know the routine. Call or email me.

Very nice!

A guy in the office just returned from Nepal,
he tells me the chakma is used with a flint to start fires

true?

doc Zox

Not very often. Even in remote areas of Nepal the match and disposable lighter have replaced steel and flint.

Doc that's a great pix and everything looks right at home.

And, sorry I missed your IM earlier today. When the phone rings I gotta run and leave the screen as it is -- was on the phone when you sent message.

Uncle Bill

Thanks for the great pics, doc Zox. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who sticks sharp, pointy objects into their decks. BTW, your wood pile has reason to be nervous. I found my WWII to be the best kindling machine I've ever owned.

One of these days. (vbeg)
Very nice blade. I hope to be able soon to go to my sisters and make her little patch of woods nervous. There is always clearing that needs done there.

Looks like some decent sized little tools with this one too.Look like the same guy who made them made the ones on my 18" AK. According to the initials it is.

Doc,if you have time and would let me impose on your good graces I would sure appreciate some detailed pics of the military frog.Especialy the back and side views. It would also be neat to see what it looks like from the inside. I can understand if you have a problem with time or such,no biggy, just mighty curious.
You could even e-mail them to me if you want.
Thanks either way!!

I am wondering if there is other means of carry besides on your butt like in the pix of the Guhrkas wearing them. I know it wouldn't be a quick draw, but I am wondering about upper center of the back.Things this big kinda get to hurtin my tender little,er big butt and waist.A 1.5 liter water bottle causes the same problem.

Yvsa the same guy is still signing every khukuri to come out of shop 2. He is either a very busy guy or the only one who can write.

Thanks Doc.
It will be much appreciated.

Uncle Bill would it be appropriate for an old veteran to wear a military frog on an 18"AK scabbard or any other personal Kuhkuri they might carry?

I was teasing about the Kami that signs all the Kuhkuri's.Like you say he must be awfully busy or something.

The little tools did look similiar though. I just wonder that if one Kami kind of starts making the ones he makes with his own style so that he can recognize them even if no one else would.Sounds reasonable and like something I might do if I made the same kind of knives all the time.

Something I found interesting in our logo khukuri is this. The khukuri is about as good as you will find in Nepal. The Salyan cho is quite elaborate ane extremely well done. The handle is the spotted deer horn and rare. However, the marking on the blade says only "Salyan" and there is no initital or marking by the kami to signify who might have made the knife. We know only that it came from Salyan.
