OK here's the deal. I am going to start curtailing buying knives. No seriously I am gonna do that starting after the 1st of the year. My resolution to myself. So here's the deal I want to buy myself one nice frame lock. Spend maybe 300 bucks or less. Looking at the Rockstead by Burke, Sebbie of course, EKI although I have owned a couple of the 7's and a 12 and have never kept them and the Rijbak of which I owned one last year and sold it for some reason which probably bugged me at the time. So opinions needed. This knife will go into edc rotation and hopefully stay there. keepem sharp and thanks

I would suggest that you get a Sebbie now. For ME, the small Sebbie is perfect for EDC. You will compare all other knives to it.

I carry a small sebbie almost every day. The sebbie in the regular rotation with a number of other folders, but it gets the most use. On the other hand, I live in a city which limits my carry to blades under 3". There are a number of larger knives I would carry if I could, including the Rijbak.

It's still a couple months out or so but you might want to look at the Spyderco Sage RIL (Reeve Integral Lock) flat ground S30V, titanium scales, and from what I can tell it's sized about right between the large and small sebenza. The price hasn't been announced, but people have been predicting around $150 or so. If you're serious about curtailing your purchases it might help to decide on one that's a ways out.

Good luck on your resolution. Later Grizz.

Give the Sebenza a shot. If your like me, you'll get rid of it within a month. Or, you may love it like many others. But you owe it to yourself to try one out!

I think you could get a ZT 0300 for about $240 or so. That'll leave some money for a cheaper knife (or 2 depending on how cheap you'll go) that you could resolve not open when you get the framelock. Then, you could put it away so that if you ever feel like you're being tempted greatly and might break your resolution, you have something to open and a new toy without spending any money and not harming your goal.

I have the same deal going with my wife. Our first child is due in like 6 weeks and she has decided that after the second week of january I will no longer be buying knives. I think I am going with either the Sebenza 21 or the umnumzaan.

Congratulations! :) I hope that your new baby boy or girl will someday grow up to enjoy your enthusiasm for knives and share this wonderful hobby with you.

In regards to this thread, I would recommend the small Sebenza as almost all my other fellow posters have. I think that the Sebenza in general is the standard to which all other EDC folders are compared to.

I don't know if you have already checked one out, but the Kershaw Tyrade is a super framelock, and has the heavy duty build I know your fond of. The frame lock on this knife is as good as it gets. I've had 4 of thes, sold two, gave one to my son and kept one for my edc rotation. It is a really solid knife that most anyone would be proud to own, carry, and use. Only drawback for me was the clip and how much knife it left sticking out of my pocket, but STR fixed that very nicely with one of his fold over deep carry clips. Here's a picture of it from my edc photo.

You know you have a problem when you start making rules to try to control your addiction.

Longbow , I am guessing you mean the Burke production model " Rockstar " ?

I would choose that over a sebby handsdown , but you need to compare the two in your hand to find out what feels best to you. The Rockstar is going to feel much bigger than the small seb , wider and almost 3/4" longer.

Other options in that $$ range : Strider PT CC , Kershaw Tyrade and ZT 0300 ( or 301 , 302 ).

:thumbup:Some really good suggestions here.

Might I throw in the Benchmade 635?

Personally it's one of my favorite folders, but I've never even held a Sebenza,or a Burke.

I just love that loud "CLACK" when I open it:D

Also love my CRK&T M4-03.Ti-framelock with an ATS-34 blade.I feel it's a little large for EDC sometimes though. The 635 get the most pocket time by far, next to my Boker SubClaw, which is permanently clipped to my belt at all times.

The Spyderco Volpe is a beautifully well made framelock as well.

Good luck on your resolution:)

Well just posted above in another thread starter that I picked up a Rift instead of a frame lock. But then again it isn't after new years! I have had sebbie's, two to be exact and should have hung on to my moonsong model. The biggest problem I have is the shape of the handle scales. I have very severe carpal tunnel and need something with a textured scale on it, hence the prod. RockStar knife. I've also had both EKI frame locks and for some reason they just didin't float my boat. I don't know maybe another Rijbak or the production AG Russell tactical frame lock. Just under a hundred bucks and have heard good things about them. Thanks one and all for the suggestions. keepem sharp
