One More "Newb" Question

Last question on my new Sebenza - Large 21. I just started to want to carry it today.

Upon closing the Sebenza I've noticed that the blade will stay wherever I place it. I've owned Benchmades and Spydercos mostly and when the blade gets close to being fully closed - it sucks into the handle by itself. The Axis lock and Spydie mid-locks with authority.

Even my cheapest linerlock Spydies like the Tenacious & Persistence have a smaller but noticeable spot where the blade takes over and finishes closing the blade completely.

I can pull the Sebenza blade out a 1/16th" and it stays right there, or pull the blade out with the tip just protruding from the handle (ouch) and it stays right there.

Is this your experience? It seem like something I'll have to keep in mind if it doesn't break in and go away. I'd hate to stab myself deeply with the tip because it didn't hold in place or I didn't quite push it down hard enough.

Comments welcome! :)

PS: The blade does stay in place when closed and can't be shaken out, I tried. It's action is smooth yet a bit stiff. Blade remains at any position it's placed at.

This is possibly the primary reason that I like the Umnumzaan more than my Small 21.
I gotta wonder if there are any cases of anyone getting poked from the Sebs.
The Zaan seems to like to stay closed until a request is put in for opening.
I just make sure the small 21 is seated fully in the aft position in my pocket so if it were to start to fall open it shouldn't go very far.
I've wondered why I haven't seen more comments on this.
Love the CR knives, but I'm starting to think that a sheath is the way to go with the free floaters.
Interested to see what kind of responses come up with this question.

It may get a little better as it wears in slightly. The blade won't get "loose" but it will get "smoother" and then the detent might work slightly more to your liking. The tolerances on a sebenza though are just so good that there isn't really anything to "pull" your blade in. Where there's a hole the detent will seat and where there's not the blade will stay where you put it.

If it starts coming OUT of the detent when you don't want it to then I'd send it in. That shouldn't be happening.

I'm not sure what this means TLR :o

It stays right where I open or close it to. I's used to the blade being pulled in. On the Sebenza, I close it and it stays closed. If I don't quite shut it 100% though it'll stay where I close it to.

Okay, I stand corrected.
I just focused on this 'issue' by fidgeting a bit and disassembling it for a little investigation.
Doesn't look like much of an issue as long as I make sure it's fully closed.
:foot:

my small sebenzas blade pulls in just barely before it closes, (the only reason i think why is because it is a small)

I just meant that with such tight tolerances and precise engineering there isn't any slop at all. With some of my knives I've noticed that the "pull" gets a little stronger as some wear occurs on the edge of the detent hole. I think that is part of what "sucks" the blade into the locked position. I've just noticed that with my sebenza it doesn't seem to be doing anything like that.

Thanks TLR. I appreciate that.

I've got it on the exchange right now. I have grown to love the precision, but I have really big hands and the backend of the handle sits inside of my palm and my thumb sits on the blade up in front of the jimping. Tragic :( but I see why you guys love them!
