One more question

In Anthony Lombardo's post of first impressions regarding the BM, he wrote that the handle slabs weren't flush with the tang. I've never handled one but I find this hard to believe unless this is the intended design. I assume that the detail, finish may be a little shy of a Reeve, let's say, but sloppy fit...Can it be?

On both my E-handles the spine protrudes above and below the micarta slabs. I too have always assumed that that was how they were supposed to be. Andy, can you clarify?

On the E models, this is true...as for it being potentially sloppy in comparison to another maker, well...it should suffice that a one piece knife turned on a lathe is hard to mess up IMHO.

Largely, it is due to the customer demand for the spine, both on top and underneath, to be completely coated as opposed to the two tone effect from skinning the perimeter, as found on older Busse Combat Knives.

This new handle approach is not uncommon among other tactical knife shops as well. On the E, we saw NO hand discomfort afforded as a result of tweaking the handle machining process to allow for coating all the way around the handle.

Are the edges of the steel chamfered or just broken/de-burred under the coating?

How high above the micarta does the steel emerge?

And another handle question. How much contouring is there? How much higher the middle of the scales than the edges?

Marion....as I am pretty sure that you don't own an E or any Busse Combat Knife, I can see why this topic, as well as some others in the recent past, might interest you.

If you would like, I would be happy to send you a knife to inspect yourself as a loaner pending an order...contact me off line if you would like to take advantage of this. You have clearly had many questions my friend, and perhaps getting one in your hands to inspect and use with no strings attached would end all of the curiosity...Merry Christmas.

In the meantime, please know that all of the edges are dehorned and smoothed out before the coating is applied...the slab is intentionally lower than the tang a few thousandths...

Contouring of the handles is machined now due to the diamond quilting process, and the palm swell is a few thousandths thicker than the edges of the slab.

Hope this helps...

Andy,

Gotcha. Thanks again.

Should I call on the phone?

I emailed out of habit, and just this morning saw that you said 'offline'.
