Came in the mail yesterday, a 1st version Schrade 301.

She's not NIB, and each blade shows some signs of use, but overall in very good shape for her age. All blades had strong snap and no rust or damaged parts.

Just need a 3rd version to have a complete set!!!!

Nice, I just picked my first version earlier this year and I am hunting the second version now. She looks mighty fine to me.

It looks in good enough condition to me.

One question, have you noticed on the Schrades the draw extends closer to the clip than on the Camillus where there is a wider space between the draw and the clip?

There are differences in models in this regard, I'm wondering if it is the company or just variances from model to model within the company.

I hadn't paid much attention, but I just pulled out both my Schrades and several Camillus made models, and your right, the Camillus made ones have a much more pronounced "shoulder" between the end of the draw/nail nick and where the clip point blade spine drops.

It's consistent by company, all the Schrade's are one way and all the Camillus' ones are the other.

Quick nutshell version:

The very first Buck traditional pocketknives were made by Schrade for the first few years in the late 60's. The early 301 stockmans and 303 cadets were the only models made by Schrade. Due to the way they were constructed, is was hard to repair them under Buck's lifetime warranty, so after 2-3 years, they moved to Camillus made ones, that were easier to repair.

Nice pick up Bear Claw-seem like your picking and choosing,
