i have a Buck 503 arrow pointing up, that my boss bought me a few years ago as part of our Christmas bonus, and i tried carrying it, but its just not enough knife for me. while it does show some wear on only the bolsters, it locks up tight, and has years of good use left in it... so heres what im going to do. i realize it has little collector value, but would make an excellent 1st knife for a young man/lady. i will put it up for free to someone with a child/niece/nephew thats about that age, parents arent gonna FREAK, and needs a knife of his/her own to learn the ways. if you are gonna take this on, promise me you wont give the child and send them on their way. im trusting you. now BRING ON THE STORIES....

sorry the pics suck, i got a crap camera...but it is a pretty nice with only light scratches on the bolsters from pocket carry with keys

In the world we now live in, they already have their own Glocks by the time they enter middle school.

thank goodness i live in rural Iowa:thumbup:...kids around here get single shot shotguns and .22s for their first guns. and none of them get sawed off

Ok woody here is my story,

Deer camp 2009. My oldest granddaughter was finally old enough to make her 1st trip into the world of "DEER CAMP" and hunting last year. In our family the kids go to deer camp the year before they get their hunting licence to see if they like it or not.

Before the first trip Papa (jb) will get the child their very own pocket knife. I figure this knife will be abused and or lost so no big $$$$ knife. However, I show her a white purl canoe and a brown wood prince. I figure she would go with the girly white purl....nope. She took the USA made 503 prince and said "papa this one has a lock and is much safer" (smart kid).

In deer camp she had that knife with her every second, she made her lunch with it, ate her dinner with it, cut up a hundred sticks with it. She just loved that knife right up to the point when she lost it:(. We never did find it. I'll be giving her a brand new 119 before she steps into the deer hunting woods to get her 1st Buck. It's a family tradition.

jb4570 is easily leading the pack since he is the only one whos submitted a real family oriented story...anyone else want this knife? i know you guys have collections with customs and such not to mention the basics you plan on passing down to your family, but i lost my brother 3 years ago, (a fellow knife fanatic and inherited his collection), so i wont have nieces and nephews other on my wifes side, and those children are a long way from being ready.

my two daughters have SAKs and shoot for fun, so i feel i have them on the right path, but i really felt good giving away that folder a couple weeks ago. surely you guys know some youngin who would be happy to get a Buck with the only wear on the bolsters from pocket carry. itll last a lifetime, and like i said, ill ship it and expect nothing in return.

Woody
p.s. i'll admit, this forum and the good people here have brought out a soft spot in me...and im a HARDASS LOL...now im gonna do some knitting:D

Woody that is a good thing you are doing in offering the knife to someone who needs it. Don't give up just yet as someone will know the right person for you to give the knife to. Nothing like an ole toughie turning soft.

its not about turning soft so much, i guess i just feel that if children nowadays arent shown the ways, this tradition will be lost. its a way of life here in Iowa, but unfortunately i have few children to pass it on to. i have what i will pass to Haley and Hannah, but i have alotta stuff collecting dust. (including firearms) My Benchmade collection is huge, but not exactly a childs first knife LOL, so im going to slowly let some of them go to buy more Bucks, my rekindled flame. so here i am, offering up a good one for a good kid ive never met.

Hay woody D,

my grand daughter has her own 22 in pink
to match her mothers short stock 22 she got as a kid
my daughter has at times come to me with a knife and
did that flutter eyelid thing and smilled and said ..
this one is pirty can i have it?
her daughter is looking at knives now also..
i am short a Koji folder now ... ;<)

My daughter Kaylee is a little knife lover. Everytime I get a knife she she says she loves it and wants it. So far she has accumulated a little 425 that Chuck signed for her, a pink 382 mini trapper and Plum has been nice enough to send her a nice 444 and LE 529. She loves em all. She would love a little 503 but she has plenty already so giving to a 1st knifer would certainly be more appropriate.

My daughter is 14, and is in a program called SEA CADETS ( a NAVY sponsered program) and is getting ready to go away for the first time to field combat medical school, for the summer. She is able to take a small pocket knife with her, for field use. This program prepares youth age kids to go into the military. That would be a cool first knife and first knife experience. Thanks
